yes please stop him from churning out generic..boombastic
scores for movies based on comic books..I just saw Spiderman
and I kept thinking..Batman..Darkman...Men In Black...I am
pretty sure this factor is also homogenising the movie
makers brain into a mush and everyone of these movies is
ticking to the same cliched plot clocks....

I think the only exception has been Blade..secret?...no
Danny Flfman..

trust me guys I am on to something..

Danny Elfman fucking rocks. His score for Spiderman was
nothing spectacular though in comparison with his other
work, nothing really shot out at me like it did with his Tim
Burton scores.

What exactly are you against, poorly plotted hollywood
blockbusters based on comic books? Danny Elfman's music?
Danny Elfman's music scoring poorly plotted hollywood
blockbusters based on comic books? Because its so good it
should be used elsewhere? Or because you don't think he
should support these movies?

I haven't seen Spiderman but the music on the trailer
sounded like shit to me.

ba! danny elfman rocks the casbah and you know it. ya his
soundtracks sound the same, but they are all good (that's
what i like to call the "danny elfman touch"). he uses a
lot of the same themse or whatever, big deal, it's still
good.

besides, he did the simpsons theme. so ya ...

this is bullshit, let elfman be elfman. he churns out so
many amazing scores, if you don't like one don't buy the
soundtrack or video/dvd.

Danny Elfman's scores all exude the same moods and hence you
interpret the contents it's wrapped around according to the
same tired old emotional triggers it..um triggers...it was
hard to make distinction b/w the flow of Spiderman from the
flow of Batman..which is wrong..and diservice to the vast
contrasts in between the mythologies..all the effort that
went into creating vastly distinct locales and production
design..(gothic art deco of Batman versus Sleek and Gleaming
Skyscrappers..of Spiderman)

and titsworth I have a right to moan at Elfman spoiling the
comic based movie content for me..I have been reading the
comics a lot longer than he has been scoring them..

bye

you have a point about his scores being overly formulaic,
whereas a john williams or hans zimmer cater more to the
story. but sometimes elfman's scores are very appropriate,
eg: nightmare before christmas, mars attacks!, planet of the
apes (i love the deconstructed theme, it's such a bass
rattler).

I enjoy Danny Elfman. Keep in mind that when he's doing a
film score, he's doing a job. Also think of the target
audience of the picture and what they expect and what will
please them. These are factors that he might influence his
composing for a film. He's really a brilliant musician.

Haven't any of you seen Forbidden Zone? It's the
first movie that Danny Elfman did the music for. He also
stars as the devil himself.

The movie itself is
indescribable, but I can tell you that Herve Villechaize
stars as the king of the forbidden zone.

I've never seen the guy in person, but I assume he's really
short and elfish. An ELF-MAN, if you will. Pointy ears
straight outta Lord of the Rings.
