Fuck around with song speeds

Anyone ever do this? Use Chronotron (Winamp) or some
plugin, and slow down/speed up songs without changing the
pitch.

It's kind of addicting... it's great to slow down fast
guitar solos so you can learn them easier, take it note by
note.

And it's just plain fun... slow down a fast song to a lazy
pace, and sometimes it takes on a whole new feel.

And some songs sound better speeded up... slow bands like
Pink Floyd and Tool and the like can be fun as hell to mess
around with, make them punk song speeds and you'll see what
I mean! BOC makes some slow ass shit, and speeding it up
makes for some hyper sounding beats.

Of course, songs are a certain speed for a REASON, and it
never sounds as good as the real product, the way the artist
intended, but it's a new way to listen to familiar music.

I use my sound cards EAX settings to alter the pitch from
time to time - it can be quite funny! There's a Male to
Female and Female to Male setting - that's funny!

You may be on to something, Ophecks. Could add a new
dimension to a DJ set - a familiar song turned into
something else entirely. Though maybe not as cool as Towers
of Dub backwards.

check out dj screw, before he died he had a huge southern US
cult following as a dj who slowed down songs at pitches that
made them completely different

No, it changes the tempo without changing the pitch. Won't
make things sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks if you speed
it up, and won't make things sound like Barry White if you
slow it down... unless you ARE listening to Barry White. In
that case... less gettit ON!!!

DJ Screw died?? wow. I remember when he first came around
(I'm originally from the south), I even made "screw" tapes
by taping from CD to tape with the tape recorder on the fast
dub mode.. heh.

*bump

Everyone should download Chronotron. If not, then you suck,
cuz Stone Cold Said So.

so pitch is unchanged while tempo varies?

The pitch doesn't change, there's NO chipmunk voices or
anything. Sounds the same, only slower/faster.

Slight quality drop when you slow it down of course, but
it's still really cool. Still sounds good.

Try Pacemaker...You can do tempo like chronotron, but with a
wider range; but you can also do pitch without affecting
tempo too. There's also a slider for both tempo and pitch.
