I just got back from seeing this movie. A really nice
flick. The commercials advertise it as some hardcore action
flick but it's really this mystery type movie with a really
diverse plot. I recomend seeing it.

the 20 second trailer was so exciting, I don't think I need
to pay to see the other 2 hours of Tom Cruise being a tit :)

martytan: i have4 an equal dislike for spielberg, but this
film [aside from teh last two minutes] was quite well done.

The movie needs:

1. A non-linear plot (action-saga type)
2. Sound editing+engiring by booth/brown
3. Rivaling faction-groups and gangs
4. AMBER as the soundtrack

john williams did the soundtrack... you think Ae have better
talent to make a soundtrack?

granted that i enjoy Autechre, i do not think they would
make a good action/mystery soundtrack

they would however make a good acid/drug dealing movie
soundtrack

album of choice : confield

i don't doubt at all that they could compose a movie
soundtrack, given that it was the right atmosphere for the
type of music they make..

whoa i just refreshed my memory on what montreal sounds like
and it DOES perfectly fit that part of the movie.

or at least some sound engineering.

remember those guns? and how whoever was in charge of it,
fitted them with just a dense "FWOMP" noise? anyone capable
of making something like gantz graf, or second peng, is
capable of better than that :/

Looked like pure crap side dished with tom cruise, who while
being crap himself, is used to great crowd drawing effect
when concerned with crap.

*Shrugs* Isn't he a little OLD to be doing action movies
still? What's the cut off age, shouldn't he be looking for
more mature roles? I dunno, I'm not going to spend money on
seeing it.

crusie didn't really do an action movie for this movie
wasn't exactly action. there were action scenes in it but it
wasn't just some pure sci-fi action thriller, it had at
least some decent twists and turns to it. but yeah i agree
with you he is a bit old to be doing action movies.

this is based on a philip k dick book is it? i've been a big
fan of PKD for years, and i've never seen a good film based
on his work - and i include Bladerunner

the preview reminds me a lot of AI. I'll probably see it
tonight or sometime this weekend or during the week.

it's based on a Philip K Dick short story, not a novel...
havent seen it yet... Spielberg's massively oversentimental
AI makes me wary, along with the often very annoying
egotrips by Tom Cruise... i still can't believe his
ridiculous portrayal of that "vampirism as a metaphor for
being gay" ... but then i never read any of Rice's novels,
so maybe thats how she wrote him?

I actually like Total Recall... for sure, having Arnold as
the hero is very un-Philip K Dick, but director Verhoven
captures the schizo-type paranoia, just what is really
real?... what is reality, is he being manipulated?... or is
he manipulating?... the do we create are own view of
subjective reality theme quite well... plus it is also not
too serious, suiting the material

yeah it is a whole lot better than AI. but AI was pretty
good. it was like a futuristic version of pinochio
