who loves/hates it? i basically know just enough, like how to record it and that's all that is important for me. once you start talking about program changes and controllers though, i just get lost on it. am i missing out not knowing how to do that stuff?

MIDI is shit the person who invented MIDI should be shot i wrote a single track sequencer (which never worked properly) for my computer degree years ago, and i can safely say that it is bullshit

i just record everything into my sequencer and play with the parameters on my synths. i guess i could just buy a midi controller and play with parameters from the controller, but that's really all i need to do it seems. i guess midi is just overcomplicated.

I to thought the creator of MIDI should be strapped to a chair and stabbed with #2 pencils repeatidly. UNTIL that is, I discovered Native Instruments' FM7. That coupled with my synth makes one bad ass mother fucker.

I wanted to fucking kill MIDI until I learned the benifits of having a control synthesizer and several MIDI enables programs. Like on FM7, instead of being able to just click on lousy key on the screen at a time, know all I do is press the keys on my synth. It opened up doors. I love it now. But MIDI cables are SO EXPENSIVE!

i dont use any computers for making music, only hardware. with a midi controller, i can completely not have to interact with my hardware i'm assuming, which is nice because i can just do everything from one box rather than move about and hover above my equipment.

Software is definately the future, but nothing, i mean NOTHING compares to pressing a key or twiddling a knob, mouse clicks will never replace that. I think however that you should have a good hardware-software balance. I use a Yamaha CS1x, and it seems to control a friends MIDI keyboard well.

that's what most of the info that i'm getting of the net seems to say. and it seems that synth controller info affects everything pertaining to a patch.
