saddest lyric? Hmmm, let me think!! There are a lot of
lyrics that aren't really that sad in itself, but are sad to
me because of how they sound, and the music and stuff... but
here's a good one...

"You look like the real thing, you taste like the real
thing, my fake plastic LOVE!!!" - Radiohead - Fake Plastic
Trees

when he sings my fake plastic love, I'm gone... it's totally
heart breaking to me...

how could i not have thought of this first?

nin - hurt

"what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt"

makes me sad everytime....

next!

it's almost like he's saying that at this point even love is
meaningless and fake... I don't know, it just gets me
everytime...

the lyrics to paranoid android are pretty depressing...

"raaaain down, raaaain doooown, come on raaain down on me.
from a great height, froom a greeeeaaaaat heeeeiiiight,
heeeeeiiight."

it's mostly tthom yorke's voice. it's sleep inducing ...

oh, another one is Release by the Afro Celt Soundsystem...
right before they recorded this album, a member of their
band was killed, and this song (which is partly sung by
Sinead O'Connor) was written through the point of view of
the killed band member... it's like he's speaking to the
living members... it's really moving!!

sorry, but you really have to read the whole song
Radiohead-Worrywort

You don't want to talk to me
You don't want to say the words
Trying to get off the hook
Trying to get off the hook
Spinning on a pin
Hanging off a hook
Trying to get yourself away
Trying to get yourself away
There's no use dwelling on
On what might have been
Just think of all the fun
You could be having
We the way you talk
We know what you want
We know what you want
What you really want
Take a look around
The candles on the cake
On what might have been
The road you should have took
Mistakes mistaken
There's no use dwelling on
No use dwelling on
It's such a beautiful day
It's such a beautiful day
Find yourself a moment
And go and get some wings
It's such a beautiful day
It's such a beautiful day
Go up turning round
Go up turning round
Go and get some wings

Judas As Black Moth

I can't hear the voice,
I can't see the form,
The wallpaper peeling,
Let the walls down,
And the bone answers:
"Eternity",
to my question:
when?
what time is it?
what place is this?
which conjunction is this?
All this waste..
Where the clocks tick away
all around
What hour is this in the middle of the night?
The cats cry in the street
The car sweeps by with a murdered child
The car sweeps by with a violated girl
The car sweeps by with its trunkful of death...
do you believe in God?
do you believe in Christ?
What monsters we've become
This flight from eaves will finally kill us all
when all we need is something..
let us lie, and sleep, and dream
other dreams
brighter dreams
better dreams
please

Current 93 is my absolute favorite of all time.
The music isn't really depressing, it instills a sense of
meloncholic grandeur... if that makes sense to anyone else.
There's always a small shaft of light spilling in from a
tiny window..

"No I Can't Lose You" from the song by Type O Negative
entitled "Can't Lose You". . . this song is so unbelievably
sad, and TON are an absolutely INCREDIBLE band. I'm not
ever going to be into goth/thrasher metal music but this
will always be one of my favourite bands ever.

Listen to the song itself and you'll understand why that
simple lyric line is so irrevocably sad; in fact, alot of
Type O Negative songs are sad. They're a very depressign
band, in truth.

Red House Painters - 24

so it's not loaded stadiums or ballparks
and we're not kids on swingsets on the blacktop
and i thought at fifteen that i'd have it down by sixteen
and twenty-four keeps breathing in my face
like a mad whore
and twenty-four keeps pounding at my door
like a friend you don't want to see
oldness comes with a smile
to every love given child
oldness comes to rile
the youth who dream suicide

San Francisco band fronted by Mark Kozalek. I think they are
still together, but he has some solo stuff as well. The
early albums are really depressing stuff, good for a breakup

Daddy by Korn. This song can leave you tears it's so moving
(the singer actually screams out his pain and bursts into
tears at the end of the song, shouting words directed at the
man who raped him as a child). it's sad, angry & very
open...just makes you think what a horrible world we live
in, some people are monsters >(

lyrics:

Mother please forgive me
I just had to get out all my pain and suffering
Now that I am done, remember I will always love you
I'm your son

Little child, looking so pretty
Come out and play, I'll be your daddy
Innocent child, looking so sweet
A rape in my eyes and on your flesh I'll eat

You've raped!
I feel dirty [I feel daddy] [I fear daddy]
It hurt!
As a child
Tied down!
That's a good boy
And fucked!
Your own child
I scream!
No one hears me
It hurt!
I'm not alive [not a lie]
My God!
Saw you watching
Mommy why?!
Your own child
{The third time this section is sung, 'Mother' is repeated
in the background}

It's alright

I didn't touch you there
Mama said she didn't care
I didn't touch you there
That's why mama stopped and stared

this is where he is crying:

I fucking hate you! Mother fucker!
Mother Fucker! I fucking hate you! Fuck You!
You son of a bitch, you fucking ruined my life!
I wanted to die!
I'm sick of it, mother fucker . . . oh oh
Why'd you fuck'n do it to me?
I Hate You!
I Fuck'n Hate You!
I Hate You!
Piece of shit!
Why?!
I Hate You!

{The woman's voice in the background}
When I awake, I'll see your face
When I awake, I'll see your light
Mother wake me from my dream
Mother wake me in the . . .

K a t y S o n g

some escape some door to open
this path seems the blackest but i
guess it's the soonest
but there in the clearing i
know you'll be wearing
your young aching smile and
waving your hand
can't go with my heart when i
can't feel what's in it i
thought you'd come over
but for some reason you didn't
glass on the pavement under my shoe
without you is all my life amounts to

a final sleep no
words from my cutting
mouth to your ear or
taut wicked pinches
from my fingers to your bitter face
that i can't heal
i know tomorrow
you will be
somewhere in london
living with someone
you've got some kind of family
there to turn to
and that's more than i could ever give you

a chance for calm
a hope for freedom
outlet from my cold solitary kingdom
by the forest of our spring stay
where you walked away
and left a bleeding part of me
empty and bothered
watching the water
quiet in the corner
numb and falling through
without you what does my life amount to?

This song is by Red House Painters-if you like sad and
depressing songs then check this band out. you will be
heaven...or hell depending on the way you look at it.

scary way. I like all the bands you mentioned, but in small
doses at a time.

I hear about small doses at a time. I used to hunt for
bands like RHP (lullaby for the working class, smog, etc..)
now it just gets to be to much. its kind of funny...both of
the rhp songs that we posted I used to listen to
religiously. I just turned 24 the other day and my ex
girlfriend (Katy) of four years just moved out about a month
ago. she left a month before my planned proposal(had a ring
too). when I was younger I used to eat songs like the
forementioned up. now when the lyrics hit to close to home
I can't even work up the courage to listen just once.

12 Rounds — Barbed Wire Hair

don't know if it's the saddest song i know, but it's the one
i can most relate to when i'm feeling depressed... it's not
really dramatic, maybe it's a little more about being a lost
soul, hopeless... but... i don't want to argument, it's just
how i feel :)

Obscene fantasy spins in my mind I'm going nowhere Love
the way I feel when I am lost In your Barbed Wire Hair I am
cut on Silky breath My dear my heart keeps racing Sewer in
this mind Don't care much for this Life I'm facing Give me
back my sugar cane Kept me up Kept me sane Feel no sunshine
Feel no rain Don't know if I'll ever Love again... Mirror to
my mind You seemed so kind My trust's unerring Messed her
head up real good Do you find that life's disturbing? I'm so
tired most of the time My heart keeps twisting burning Gut
implodes on ice I want now that This world stops turning
Give me back my sugar cane Kept me up Kept me sane Feel no
sunshine Feel no rain Don't know if I'll ever Love again...
I promise please Down on my knees I'll be your whore Just
give me More...Give me back my sugar cane Kept me up Kept me
sane Feel no sunshine Feel no rain Don't know if I'll ever
Love again...Don't know Will I ever love again?

some very dramatic lyrics by Goldfinger:

"My Girlfriend's Shower Sucks"

The temperature changes
It chills me to the bone
It makes me wish that I was cleaning myself at home
It makes me grumpy and sometimes I lose hope
The water's hard, so I can never rinse the soap
and it's got no pressure
The water dribbles down on me
and it's got no pressure
It's like the shower's going pee

Marilyn Manson - Last day on Earth

Yesterday was a million years ago
In all my past lives I played an asshole
Now I found you, it's almost too late
And this earth seems obliviating
We are trembling in our crutches
High and dead our skin is glass
I'm so empty here without
I crack and split my xerox hands

I know it's the last day on earth
We'll be together while the planet dies
I know it's the last day on earth
We'll never say goodbye

The dogs slaughter each other softly
Love burns it's casualties
We are damaged provider modules
Spill the seeds at our children's feet
I'm so empty here without you
I know they want me dead

I know it's the last day on earth (chorus repeat)

Marilyn Manson - Coma White

Something is cold and blank behind her smile
She's standing on an overpass
In her miracle mile
(coma):
"You were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today
Today to run away"

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

Her mouth was an empty cut
And she was waiting to fall
Just bleeding like a polaroid that
Lost all her dolls
(coma):
"You were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today
Today to run away"

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
(chorus repeat)
