Zeus, this may sound like a dumb question, but what exactly is a "hook" in music? I've heard people talk about hooks, and I just don't know what they are. :|

the hook is the catchy part of the song... the main theme
the hook Come Together , by the Beatles is "come together right now over me"
that help?

Also, is there any way to translate a guitar tab into piano chords?
I don't play guitar, but I want to play the music to some stuff I can only find guitar tabs for. :(
And I suck at the piano, but i know the keys and like 9 chords ;)

hmmmm
now do you mean a guitar chord, just the symbol, or like, is each note signified on the neck?

I think it's each note signified on the neck. Lots of crazy things like -------0--------- --------1-------- -----------1-1-1
things similar to that--that's nothing though, I just made that up.

ok
well....
oi
the bottom line: 0 = E 1 = E# or F 2 = F# or G
etc etc
Second one up: 0= A 1= A# or Bb
etc
3 line up 0= D etc
4th line up 0=G
5th 0=B
6th 0= E
wow, thats pretty confusing.,, but i hope you can make some sense out of it

Thanks! I'm really bad at piano! I can't play chords very well at all--switching between them is virtually impossible for me. I end up just programming all my music or playing notes instead of chords (which doens't sound the same at all! hhahaha) :)

also,
i think the best thing you could do... is try to figure it out by listening to it
i never did that, and now i am spending lots of time trying to develop my ear.
use your ears man! it will pay off in the long run!

I learned the perfect drug ending by nine inch nails by ear! It's not perfect, but it's pretty close! I read somewhere online that it helps to hum what you hear as you try to play it--do they teach that in music school? The only instrument I can actually play is the flutophone (recorder) :)
hot-cross-buns hot-cross-buns :)

I think I can sing well, but I'm very uncoordinated with keys ;)
I sing all the time... I especially love bad 80's singing--Soft Cell's non-tainted love songs are great ;)
