Is your heart more with rock or electronic music?
I'd have to say, recently, I've come to the conclusion I'm more of a rocker at heart... not so much TODAY'S rock, although there's some good stuff out.
But the music I enjoy listening to most is classic rock from the '60s and '70s, early 80's... Pink Floyd, Doors, Stones, The Who, Kinks, Clash, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Hendrix, Beach Boys, CCR, Cream, Velvet Underground, Dylan, Zappa, Smiths, stuff like that.
Of course it's been all downhill since then, but I like other more modern guitar based stuff... Radiohead, Travis and Coldplay (heh), Sigur Ros, Metallica, System of a Down, Sloan, Tool, etc etc etc. All the popular rock bands now are WAY too formulaic.
I guess I'm more of a rocker... though I like modern ELECTRONIC better than modern ROCK... but my favorite music was made decades ago. Listening to crazy 60's art rock was the most exciting phase for me, and it's my favorite style. It gets old, but it never gets OLD, unlike so much 80's stuff.
Eh, best of both worlds, I'm obsessed with both, that can't be a bad thing.

Good topic. As U probably know,i was heavily into the Beatles,60's thing. At the time (early 90's),i also got into the 'shoegazing' era(i.e. My Bloody Valentine,Ride...who both still f.rock ,,by the way etc).I feel electronica IMO is more thoughtful and more mature than these 'plug in ,turn up the amps'type rock groups, but it's good to see that both types can produce the results every so often.Oh yeah, before i forget Ophecks,do you like the solo Beatles stuff ,as well? }:>

Yeah, electrohead is just some crap name I came up with right quick, you know what I mean though.
System of Down is awesome, it gives me an energy that no electronic music can give me...
But each style has its own place, and NOTHING is better than SAW2 or BOC is you're kicking back and in a weird mood. Rock usually takes a back seat for me in that case...

eh, fuck rock
it seems the only 'rock' thats going anywhere these days uses electronic equipment and influences..
just because something has been around longer and is more popular doesnt make it better, imo

"it seems the only 'rock' thats going anywhere these days uses electronic equipment and influences.."
You know, I thought the exact same thing the other day... and it's true... rock music I think is at the end of the line, and the really good rock bands like Radiohead are bringing in electronic stuff into the mix... I mean, there's only so much you can do with guitars and drums...

I love guitar and drums, but nobody knows what to DO with it anymore... now, the instruments seem to be the center of attention... who's got the loudest riffs, the heaviest drumming, the most detuned bass...
Before, the instruments took back seat to coolness! Like Jim Morrison! They provided a kick ass backdrop for the SONG.

I started out listening to "classic rock" (zep, floyd, beatles, doors)
Then I got into "noisy alternative guitar rock" (dinosaur jr, sonic youth, pixies, my bloody valentine)
Then "electronica."
Now I'm into ambient and classical mostly. Getting old, I suppose.
My favorite phase was the "noisy alternative guitar rock" phase, since there were so many good albums being cranked out and I had many friends in the same scene.

Oh, and there is definitely a lot of metal around that has no electronic edge to it at all. Not Static-X type metal (which is very electronically motivated and a stretch to even call metal), but death/grind etc..
I hope that made sense
