How can an artist make a purely synthetic and cold "IDM"
sound for his project and NOT sound like AE? All of the acts
that i've heard that try to break this mold have to
incorporate other styles, like trance, into their sound. Any
other nueances? Opinions?

Break the mold? when they started making their music, they
were so technoid (incuballa), but now they are extreamly
experimental (confield). If that's not breaking the mold,
then give me a better example. No other "IDM" act has really
done what they did with "pure synthetics." I've heard so
many AE ripp offs, but what i'm trying to convey is the fact
that if one was to make synthetic IDM, they'd be labeled as
a ripp off unless they meld with another style.

yeah, confield is a big step in AE's evolution. Considered
by many to be their finest work. It's definatley up there on
my fav AE list.

well said. i like it a lot, but the grainular synth gets old
fast; so the cd loses points in my book.

hey, there's no only synthetic into ae... they sometimes get
a microphone out to get some noises...

anyway, I agree 'confield' is ace.
