how wack, i spent fifty bucks on a 256mb memory chip for my
computer and the fucking thing doesn't line up with my slot.
i wish there was a way to tell on the RAM chip's packaging
where the notches are.

take it back to the shop & get one that does....shouldn't
have a problem exchanging...

The amount of times people have bought mem at work without
coming to see me to check it out is amazing....it's my job,
after all, to look after these sorts of things but my users
jut won't listen when I tell them about the diff types of
memory...

Still, their loss; it does mean I've got a drawer full of
about 20 mem modules bought by mistake....if they can't use
me, then certainly can....& my machine loves me...:)...

What Motherboard/Machine have you and I'll find out exactly
what spec you need....

spliffy

btw i meant 7000 (US), not 7200

i went on the "punani" (PNY) web site and they say i need
this model:

P-171558-B21 171558-B21 4092172

can you translate that to something i can ask or look for at
a best buy (US computer store)?

tits...

Try this site at CNET to compare prices...

http://shopper.cnet.com/shopping/0-11497-301-0-0.html?ty=.......

That's the trouble with corporate makes like Compaq & IBM,
they seem to force you into buying their own make stuff..

Also, chat withe the people at the supplier you choose;
they'll know exactly what sort of stuff compaq needs...

good luck, mate...

and quite often, other cheaper more generic memory will
work...

so yeah, talk to an expert at a mem store/site....it's
really a minefield & easy to get stuck...
