Chino marino from Deftones

hedtwin from Manchester, England. on 2001-03-20 19:30 [#00001243]

CHINO LIKES BOARDS OF CANADA!! He says that they are his
current favourite band. Wow, deftones are one of the best
metal bands around as well. And chino is so very very cool,
AND HE LIKES BOARDS OF CANADA!!! WOO!!! SCORE!!

ded zero from kenosha wi on 2001-03-20 19:37 [#00001247]

that is pretty rad, i didn't know that. chino is one of my
favorite singers :)

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-20 21:36 [#00001251]

a little like how Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit digs Aphex
Twin, eh?

hedtwin from manchester on 2001-03-20 21:51 [#00001254]

i heard about that too! There was anotehr band that was
similar, metal, and they all liked squarepusher and aphex,
not NIN, obviously. Cannot remember who!

Netlon Sentinel from Netherlands on 2001-03-20 22:17 [#00001255]

of course you all know the smashing pumpkins played i care
because you do... before their shows last year. heh, i was
there. it was absolute coolness. i felt like i was the only
one who knew the music!

Ross on 2001-03-20 23:14 [#00001257]

wes also likes portishead:)

Nathan from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-03-21 01:49 [#00001260]

I saw Smashing Pumpkins\'s last Vancouver show last summer
at Summersault Festival...I Care Because You Do was played
in full before they came onstage! I had no idea that they
did this at other tour stops! Cool! I.C.B.Y.D is masterful
work.....t\'was the first Aphex Twin I ever bought. The
shitty thing is that Aphex Twin\'s more obscure releases are
hard to find here. I have found some on vinyl at various
places, but they want a bleedin\' fortune for them! ARGH!
-peace ya\'ll!

Ross on 2001-03-21 02:01 [#00001261]

I'm from vancouver as well, around there

Nathan from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-03-21 03:38 [#00001267]

Reply to Ross: Dude spread the word of Aphex Twin to your
children-when and if you have any.....hahaha!

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-21 04:18 [#00001268]

cool. i'm near Vancouver too, just a few hours' drive (from
the North Okanagan).

Ross on 2001-03-21 05:48 [#00001272]

haha, i dunno, maybe my children will be into garbage music,
hopefully not..I would hate for my kids to listen to pop
*Ross dont curse yourself*

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-21 07:59 [#00001275]

Ross: ah, every generation has their "golden age" of music,
eh? that's why nostalgia exists tho, i guess. you'll be able
to impart your wisdom of many years to your children and
they'll be listening to your tales with wide eyes and
hopefully open ears.

i'll be like to the youngsters in the future:

"damnit, in MY day, we had REAL bubblegum pop... like
Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys! REAL humans singing
and dancing on stage -- not this quasi-Idoru* crap!"

but seriously, i'm more of an Christina Aguilera and S Club
7 person. :)

*see Japanese culture and William Gibson

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:02 [#00001276]

haha cool, sometimes its surprises me what i listen to, like
my favorite artist is tori amos, but i love aphex twin..it's
like two extremes, two different fields, but i guess that's
why music's so great..Oh, i wish i was alive when the pixies
were around, sweet band

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-21 08:11 [#00001277]

Ross: totally, man!!!

i absolutely agree. like for me, it's always been about
diversity... simply put, we *like* the music that we *like*
and it's a matter of personal preference that makes us
beautifully unique as individuals. i honestly can't stand
the arrogant snobbery that sometimes rears its head as IDM
chinstroking. it's very narrowminded and sort of a musical
racism in that it segregates the spectrum. sure, one doesn't
have to like everything, but i see no good reason for
prejudice and intolerance either :).

do you listen to NIN at all? i like both Trent and Tori very
much. some of my fave Tori songs include "Spark" and
"Professional Window" (the Armand Van Helden remixes
too!)... oh, and "Caught A Lite Sneeze"! the two of them are
good friends in real life, aren't they? if so, it's
interesting that they can be so close despite the way they
artistically express themselves about topics like rape --
obviously, Mr. Reznor is not a real rapist nor advocates
violence against women but some people read too literally
into the lyrics :P. Tori Amos has real courage and strength,
i admire her and i think her piano playing is great too.

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:24 [#00001279]

thats awesome man, i dont think trent and tori are very good
friends, Trent was asked a few months ago whether he'd do
another collab. with Tori and he said he'd love to, but she
might not feel the same..they did live together while Tori
recorded Under the Pink, maybe something has went wrong in
the past, we may never know....I love past the mission, it's
just a wicked song, I also like the new placebo song, ive
never really been into them, but the synth line reminds me
of depeche mode or good 80s synthpop bands..

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:24 [#00001280]

Oh yea..there's a new Tori album this year too, supposedly
really different...I'm excited

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:25 [#00001281]

i heard Trent's song on rape on downward spiral was against
rape, but from the perspective of someone that did
it..what's the song's name..i forget..I like Nin, i borrowed
the fragile from a friend and loved it, my personal fav.
song ive heard is a warm place

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-21 08:27 [#00001282]

Ross: that's awesome to hear, Ross... thanks for updating
me, i haven't been keeping track lately! well, i'll be
keeping my ears open for Tori's new album now that you've
told me. :-)

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:32 [#00001283]

i visited your site, i also make music, but ive never
bothered to put it on mp3.com or anything, it sounds
bizarre, but i use fruityloops, a keyboard sometimes, and
little things i can find for sampling and such and make
music, the most recent cd ive made is tons better than the
stuff i made last summer, and over the years (this also will
sound add) ive learned how to use sound recorder (the crappy
program) to my advantage...

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:33 [#00001284]

I also of course use samples i have on my hd, but i edit
them and make them sound totally unlike the original,
sampling is original when you can warp it into something
that you would never knew what it was in the first place, I
like your do it yourself ethic, i personally love working on
music, it's such an experimental process, plus im really
into stereo effects, making an awesome headphone cd

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-21 08:40 [#00001285]

Ross: oh that's neat! wow we are posting quite a bit, aren't
we? sounds like you are definitely passionate about both
listening and making music. thanks for visiting my site -- i
am doing some things now involving granular synthesis and
other wacky technical terms but in a different sort of
context than, say, the way Autechre deconstructs sonic
sculptures.

i appreciate sampling both ways -- it's neat to spot things
that are more-or-less recognizable, even in a DJ Shadow
context, but to make your things your warped own is great
too. DIY has definitely empowered "bedroom" producers like
us! maybe you should consider posting your music up for all
of us here to hear, it certainly sounds like you are doing
well.

take care, i'm off now ;)!

Ross on 2001-03-21 08:41 [#00001286]

im off too! ill try posting my music soon, i really
should...take it easy man!

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-21 09:13 [#00001287]

glad to hear. moreso to you... take care, Ross! cheers.
