"Although not a follower of hseroK divaD (David Koresh),
she's a devoted Branch Davidian" Anybody know what this
means?

I supposed this happened in "1969", did it?

David Koresh was the leader of a religious cult or something
wasn't he? Wasn't that the Waco Texas thing? Maybe Branch
Davidian is what the cult members were called...

I read somewhere that the 1969 is a connection with the
Charles Manson murders... but who really knows, all that
connects the two things is that the manson murders took
place in 1969...

"1969" is the sunshine. Is that why it's connected with
Charles Manson? That's what I heard, something about the
Sunshine killers or something.

waco was in 92, or 91, some where around there. 69 is also
the year that cs gas was outlawed, which is what the
davidians used to destroy the building in waco

I dunno, I just love Boards of Canada... I don't try and
read into all these connections, I just listen to the music
and enjoy it... maybe the connections are there and were
meant by the group, maybe not... but the music is fantastic,
and that's all I care about!!!

the connections and shit are half the fun! i mean, come on,
the smallest wierd number. the track it's self is a
reference to their old label (the smallest wierd number is
70, they used to be on music70) and it's got a davidian
reference in it (we love you all played backwords: david
koresh said this to a negotiator before he torched the
place) it's groovy shite!

the branch davidians didn't do all the killing in Waco --
look towards governmental agencies for the blame -- their
unlawful attempts to get into the compound...their
over-the-top reaction to his refusal -- they were the crazy
fuckers, not him

youll also notice that the playing time of 'smallest weird
number' is 70 seconds

'a beautiful place' ep is also full of branch davidian
references...(the title, a pic of david koresh's eye, amo
bishop rodin, etc...)
they said in an interview that they were just interested in
the whole event...how the us government reacted ..they claim
not to be very religious or anything..just intrigued by
events like waco

Amo Bishop Roden, a woman who left the Waco compound
because she disagreed that David Koresh was a prophet. (Amo
Bishop Roden described the compound as "a beautiful place
out in the country.")

david koresh didn't burn down the compound and kill the
children - the governmental agencies are responsible for it
- and that's been documented by reliable (and myseteriously
ignored (just like in the JFK assassination)) witnesses

i was in fourth grade. i was very hypnotized by the whole
thing, but i could never figure out what was going on. all
the news would report would be horrible things about the
cult, but one could never get any information on what the
cult was about, just that Koresh claimed to be a prophet.
what the hell kind of information did david have to attract
such a following? what kind of person was he? what were
his prophecies?

A little about the Waco/ Ruby Ridge incident. The whole
controversy about the event is brought about by the dispute
whether the FBI agents set the fire, or whether the Branch
Davidians did. I think most, if not all the people inside
who weren't evacuated by the FBI died. Mass death - the
main reason for the investigation / controversy. Who was
ultimately responsible for all those who died is in dispute
to this day. The whole thing was also televised live on the
broadcast & news stations, i remember it quite well.

It's weird - All of BoC's music gives me this odd image in
my head of a peaceful, sunny, hot landscape, like in the
midwest or the south central united states. Especially
1969.

maybe they had distant (or otherwise) relatives involved in
the branch davidians? or maybe their third cousin fourth
removed was one of the feds who torched the place and
allowed them all to die

fuck me...there's a lot of disinfo going about WACO...

You guys need to have a deeper look into what happened, the
net should be full of info so you can make our own mind up
rather than go for any media fed story...it was one of the
major events of the 90s (and really defined that decade I
think)...

It's generally accepted that the FBI fucked up big
style...using Tanks and Guns against Women & Children is
kinda wack...as to who started the fire?..check the tape;
the fire starts just as a huge tank more or less destroys
the whole side of the main building (by crashing thru
it)...whether it was the tank that caused the fire, you
gotta wonder what the fuck it was doing there in the first
place....

Ruby Ridge was even worst in terms of blatent Government
overkill...the amount of armed officers to deal with the
tiny amount of people was way over the top....I believe it
was only a family anyway (Father, 2-3 kids and the
mother)...the mother got shot & killed first and they forced
the kids/father to stay in the shack with her dead body for
days...

The US Govt was in major trouble over these 2 events...

It's also generally accepted that Waco & Ruby Ridge were the
key motivation behind Tim McVeighs bombing of that Federal
building....I'm not condoning that attack but the Govt
should have (and probably did) seen it coming after their
fiasco at Waco and Ruby Ridge...

9/11 made that kinda of Governmental paranoia seem somewhat
misplaced....

Oh yeah..1969...a wonderul year; full of weird
resonances...

a) First men on the moon....
b) Woodstock...end of the 60s dream..
c) Birth of the Internet..(yay!!)...
d) Manson Murders & Trial...(again more death of the
60s)...
e) jands birth (Boc were obviously thinking of that I
reckon...;)...

69 is when the whole 60s love & peace vibe died and it
flipped into the hard drug use & paranoia of the
70s...fascinating time to look into...

"FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi-- who shot Vicki Weaver in the head
while she was standing in the cabin doorway, holding her
baby in her arms--...."...

Kinda sums it up really...the above is about Ruby Ridge...

Janet Reno: "The ghost of Waco will be with me all of my
life, I will never forget Waco."

Too fucking right, Janet...a lot of people hold you
personally responsible...(she ordered the tanks in, after
51(!) days...)...

The more you read about Waco & Ruby Ridge, the more obvious
it becomes that this was a major error by the US Govt...

To be honest, I thought "From One Source All Things Depend"
was one of the creepiest tracks on Geogaddi.

Having little kids talk about God is one thing, but having
them recite verses from the Bible is another. Those kids
didn't really sound like they knew what they were saying. It
sounded like one of those school recitations of a history
book.

The one part of it that sticks out in my mind is when the
little girl recites The Lord's Prayer and gets to the part
where it talks about dying she stutters a bit, like she
realizes what she's saying.

The overlying theme of Geogaddi I think is one of confusion
and how easily people are led "astray." Every BOC album is
like that the confusion, beautiful but at the same time
haunting melodies, there something dark in laying in the
tracks...I know this is a touchy subject for people so I
won't make any assumptions.

I will say that little kids are the easiest to influence and
this track really let's that show through.

1969 great track!
