hey,

ive been to ms.com looking for answers...no help.

im having trouble starting my pc. i hit the power button,
the lights come on, fans start running then it just dies.

at first i thought it might be a power supply problem, but
then i noticed if i hold my finger in the rester button
while hitting the power button, the lights stay on and the
fans keep running untill i release my finger from the reset
button and it all dies again.

i tried this about 30X this morning, sometimes it would
allmost start then just die. till eventually and for no
particular reason it just started up.

she ran fine all day. that is untill i went to shut her
down. she wont.

i go to start/shutdown....the shutdown menu comes up, i
select shutdown press ok, and she just returns to my
desktop.

what the fuck is going on?

she's like an old car or something that needs a few times to
start.

i have taken to putting her into hibernation mode instead of
shutting down. this seems to work, so obviously its not a
power supply problem. but what the fuck is it? all my drives
are working fine its just not booting. in fact half the time
she shuts down before even checking the floppy drive (the
light doesnt come on)

anyway, anyone evr had this problem?
something to do with windows maybe?

im running a dual PII 500Mhz PC
with win 2k pro.

help! ..... please.

thorpe.

ps: i have windows in a seperate drive all by itself. if i
do a reinstall will it effect any other programs. i meen
will it reset my registry?

I feel for you dude! My harddrive crashed a couple of weeks
ago. that sucked! anyways. it sounds like your motherboard
(or mayby just your BIOS) is totalty fucked up. that's not a
professional opinion though. :)

ever since I built my pc myself (all parts from a local
computer fair), everytime I go to boot up I will get a black
screen (the pc sounds to be running (fans and hardrive light
are go)). Now that state will remain untill I hit the reset
button, but theres one glitch I have to wait at least 2-5
minutes before it will actually boot up and not return to
the same black screen, it's weired, it's almost like it
needs to be warmed up before it runs?
