it doesn't matter if he's not underground, he makes good
music. the only way to stay underground is to make rubbish,
as soon as you make good music more people will like it.

I think it depends on the definition of 'underground,'
obviously..

his is absolutely underground in spain...so for me it is...
but really in the net he is not...more than a 1000 posters
in this MB is a lot... and then those from joyrex...aphex is
the king of the internet... do you think other artists have
such an ammount of posters in their forums???

Heh, the first time I heard Aphex twin was the song 4 in a,
get this, a anti-drugs commercial. A commercial! And I've
heard Aphex songs when MtV goes to commercials.

i agree with you.

what defines what is 'underground'?

i see it as a mixture of popularity (how known is the artist
on an international level ) and record sales.

i feel that aphex is not underground. underground being the
fact that ppl are conscience of his presence/works in
electronic. Whenever i talk to ppl about electronic, i saw
ask them about band x or y, and they stare blankly, but when
i mention aphex, they always say that they know who he is
and like some of his stuff (an abulm or song).

he does not seem any more maintream than he did in 1995,
less so really.... if people have heard of him, it's just
because of his rep and the last decade...

it is funny that stuff like "4" and "girl/boy" can be heard
on the TV now, ironic really... really a reflection on the
universalitality of the the music... but c'mon... Drukqs
hardly did a thing to make Aphex more mainstream in the USA,
and i doubt that it did more elsewhere in the world... he
has just been around for a decade, a figure to represent
non-dance post-house "music"... a name to drop to try to
sound "kewl"... if anything, Richard has damaged his
commercial appeal the last five years...

most of u guys seem to attach a stigma to liking something
that is seen as mainstream. it all depends what you want
from the music itself.

do you really like the music or are you looking for kudos
for liking something obscure. i personally don't care
whether an artist is underground, overground or a complete
sell-out. if the music is good i'll buy it with no shame.
