I would assume that this plant is edible, and judging from
Richard's song entitled as such, I would also assume that it
tastes pretty good, too. Can anyone tell me anything more
about donkey rhubarb?

why would you assume it tastes good?

Reynoutria japonica :-
AKA - Japanese Knotweed or Donkey Rhubarb. Forms thickets of
stout, rather zig-zag, red-brown stems up to nearly 6 feet
(2 m) high, with broad pointed leaves straight at the base.
Flowers white and feathery. Many of us know it as Donkey
Rhubarb - presumably because one would be a donkey to
attempt to eat these rhubarb-like stems. Also known as
Polygonum cuspidatum. A very aggressive invader of disturbed
and shaded habitats.

"regular" rhubarb leaves are poisonous! I don't have any
idea about donkey rhubarb.

"regular" rhubarb leaves CAN BE poisonous, THERE ARE
DIFFERENT VARIETIES...

(HOLY CRAP, READING AND PAYING ATTENTION DOES PAY OFF)

Hmmm yes I know several years ago when I was sorta stupid my
friend and I ate rhubarb leaves because they tasted good. .
. and we found out that they were poisonous, but we didn't
get sick or anything, lol.

Eh?
My mum makes rhubarb pie all the time..
The leaves are poisonous but the stems are not? That's sort
of odd.

I don't know what kind of rhubarb it is, my mom and I yank
it out of the soil at the edge of a glade near our house...
Big bristly leaves with thick stems... Bright pink at the
bottom(that's the edible part).

It's good fun to cut down, I used to do it with a massive
scythe type thing when I was a gardener. An old guy I was
talking to about it used to have to cut it down when he was
a prisoner of war held by the japanese.

Anyway, the reason I bumped this:

I've just been listening to the Donkey Rhubarb EP and I'd
forgotten how good it is. Donkey Rhubarb is mental, Icct
Hedral Orchestration is scary, Pancake Lizard is very ICBYD.
Vaz Deferenz sounds like it belongs on the Caustic Window
compilation.

I just like pelvic thrusting bears.... ha ha ha ha ha, oh
man, what is aphex on...? Or cunningham or whoever made
that. That's genius making your gimick to have your own face
on everything. aphex twin hands aphex twin a grammy in front
of a crowd of aphex twins, all grinning.

thats not possible,

MY grandma makes the best rhubarb cake EVER EVER EVER

its really sour and you can only eat it with a lot of
"sahne" (you know that
stirred-milk-stuff-i-dont-know-in-english)

its the combination that uplifts you like a child

and thats basically whats the song is all about, bad beats
and cheezy melody :)

im getting hungry

thers nothing like the taste of rhubarb. sour yet incredably
up`lifting. healthy as fuck and great with custard. Nothing

on a cold winters evening.... delicious.
