Grantz Graf: POSTER...

Had one of those "Am I a dumbass or what?" moments
today...

I was moving around some posters I've got around my desk and
there's one from Creative Review from November
2001...abstract polgons; very very nice (so nice I'd put two
up next to each other..)...

Anyways..I thought "that image looks kinda familar" and sure
enough, it turns out to be a still from the Grantz Graf
video by Alex Rutterford...don't know why I didn't notice
before really...

So it looks like the GG vid was complete back in NOV
2001..wonder why we've waited so long?...

You can get hold of an unfolded version of this poster from
CR...they cost £5...It's the NOV 01 issue you want..(got a
big article about WARP in there as well)..

its pretty big BTW around 2ft by 3ft...excellent quality
paper as well...Wish I'd bought a few more copies now...

(The latest CR has got an excellent PRAYSTATION poster
in...check it out if you get a chance...)...

oh yeah...this guy designed the SQPR logo...that one that
looks a bit AFX really...

The >[ thing....

anyway, Squarepusher is a pagan word meaning an Archer...
hmmm..you learn something new everyday (I always thought it
was a ref to Acid...)..

np...should have noticed it before really as it's been on my
wall since November...with 2 2ftx3ft posters staring at you
everyday, it's kinda thick not to have noticed...especially
when I'd been looking forward to the GGvideo for so long...

oh yeah, another thing....you know that bit in AOTC with the
acoustic weapon in space...well, there's a bit that's
exactly like that about a minute in...awesome piece of
work...(took about 5 months to make apparently...the guy
nearly had a panic attack the first time he heard the track
as it was so dense...)...

Where's my Gantz Graf poster!!!!!!!?!?!?!?

Is the new cd indeed going to be called Gantz Graf? Never
before have Autechre called a cd from a track name. I think
it's wrong and hope the new EP will be called something
different

Oh man i can't whait to see it !!!!
I read that gantz graf article on ae.nu and it really
sounds like something special.

yeah..you can def see he's put a lot of work into it...

Theres a bit of spiel about it in the mag where he goes on
about every note having it's own indiviudual shape...and you
know how dense GG is...

fuck..I wanna see more videos like this...where the
sound/visual is sync'ed so well...it took me a fair while to
get into the MP3 of GG (the other 2 tracks I liked more to
start with) but when you see it & hear it, it makes a lot
more sense....

I'll see what I can do about ripping it off the DVD...I'm a
bit fucked hardware wise at moment but I'll see what I can
do once I get back to work on Wednesday...

something).I know,my brains' mashed as well...}:>

Does anyone know where you can watch the Gantz Graf video,
or who directed it?

Get yourself a sub to Creative Review..it's a pukka mag,
wonderfully designed and laid out (as you'd expect from a
mag aimed at "creatives"...hate that term..)..

you get to see a lot of shit well in advance of actual
releases...Like this poster from NOV 2001..8 months ago...

It's about £56 for the year for the UK but prob double that
for US/RotW...it's only subscribers who get the DVDs (one
every 6 months...)...

regital: Directed/Created by ALEX RUTTERFORD ... he's done
some work on the AIFOL video with Chris Cunningham...

& so far only about a minute of it has been released on this
Creative Review DVD mentioned above...full version is out on
Aug 5th, I believe...

hey jand, it was prolly a good idea to read the interview on
the back of the poster. it's lush and is actually framed on
my wall. god damn creative review it's soooo expensive!!!

yeah... I've now got one with the poster and the other with
screen shots & interview next to each other...some of his
other work is soo smooth; I like those fluid type monochrome
things...

Yeah...it is expensive...I'm lucky as I get a copy via work
and then theres a market stall that sells out of date mags
in chelmsford for 50p each...so I generally pick up a couple
of extra copies that way as well....wish I'd picked up a
couple more now tho as they had tons...

Have you got the latest one?...with the PRAYSTATION
poster?...I sooo love Josh Davis work, looking forward to
his book due out any day now...

no i havn't got this months, i don't do graphics anymore so
i decided to stop getting it.
i'will take a look though. another pet hate is the price of
artists/designers books, but i suppose they need to get
money somewhere

yeah..I know what you mean about art/design books, I could
spend endless amounts of cash on em...

but a word to the wise...

Waterstones don't expect people to shoplift books...

I never said that tho...;)...

oh i know, it's very naive of them. just watch out some
expensive ones have tags on :)))))) i gave up doing things
like that

one?

yeah...those PCB type things hidden behind the
barcode...pretty crafty things...

but yeah..I've stopped going into book shops so much
recently...was getting a little hairy and you only need to
get caught once....

One good one that worth paying for in the MAEDA@MEDIA one...
by John Maeda....think it's only about 20 quid...seldom a
week goes by without me having a look thru that...

SEPIX: CR is Creative Review... a UK magazine for
"Creatives"; a horrible word for people who work in
advertising ot the media...I work in neither, just get it
because I love good design...

check out Creative Review website ... you might have to sign up for
their 7 day free trial thing to get onto the site but it's
worth it....

The poster comes with the NOV2001 CR...or you can just order
the poster if you don't want the whole issue...let me know
if that site doesn't give you the info you need and I'll
find out more for ya...

Looks like back issues are £8 (gulp) or if you just want
the poster it's £5 ... Wish I'd picked up some more copies
for 50P now, I could've passed em on to you lot...but only
put 2 & 2 together when I saw the GG video...dumbass or
what???

The Nov2001 issue is pretty cool...as well as the Alex
Rutterford/GG Poster/inteview thing it's also got a good
feature about WARP, it's website & designers....

offline jand from Braintree (United Kingdom) on 2002-06-03 07:18 [#00247526]
Points: 5975 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

shit...don't sign up for the 7 day trial...they want your
Ccard details; not a good idea...

The info you need is on there anyway without signing up....

an afx logo poster would be much nicers...

An AFX logo poster would be a piece of piss to produce
tho...you could blow up the cover of SAWI real easy....

or knock something up in Freehand/Illustrator and pop down
to your local Kinkos with ya disk in hand...

This AE poster is pretty similar to the Drafttable/Exploding
Geometry style of graphic design that's been doing the
rounds for the last few years...Abstract 3D shapes and
Shards exploded kinda of thing....you'll know the style if
you follow the web deisgn world in anyway...

Except, of course, in the video it moves...

sepix: email crcirc@centaur.co.uk ... that's the circulation
dept...

I've got the latest issue in front of me and it says they
accept cheques so you should be able to go that route...wish
us UK fuckers would go to Euros, would make this far far
easier...The sooner someone paves the Channel and we become
a proper part of Europe the better, I hate our little island
mentality...

oh yeah...Don't expect a reply for a few days...the UK is
kinda closed til Wednesday...

working at the movie theatre in my home town had 1 (and 1
only) advantage: free movie posters! Though now, the
managers take them all just to have 1 more way to dick us
over, so we can't get them as often and it's usually the
shitty movies... But I have gotten some cool ones in my time
working there.

yeah. that sounds nice, well how it used to be.
I'll probably purchase some movieposters to cheer things up.
Naked walls are kinda sad.
