Anyone into these guys? Im slowly getting into them after
seeing them on tv and hearing they play with Sigur Ros. I
don't know a single thing about them but some of their music
sounds excellent. Sigur Ros-ish

Mogwai is awesome, check out the albums Rock Action and
Young Team. Also check out the EP entitled My Father My
King.

those internet hoaxes

If you dont know them, also listen to Godspeed You Black
Emperor! A Silver Mt.Zion, Set Fire To Flames, Mercury Rev,
Do Make Say Think.

beware: mercury rev has some real wack shit, like their
newest album. deserts songs is great tho.

and to clarify, none of those bands taoist just mentioned
sound anything like mogwai except godspeed (kinda mogwai
with strings). however they're all bands you're likely to
enjoy if you like mogwai. i'd also add tortoise, slint (old
band), arab strap, my bloody valentine, and hood to that
list.

you dont like all is dream titsworth? The upbeat songs are
kind of naff, but I actually prefer it to deserters songs on
the whole.

i guess i just prefer their gutretching stuff; the vocals
and lyrics on the new one just piss me off

I own young team & my father, my king but have heard rock
action & some of cody..They're a truly amazing band, sine
wave is one of the most powerfully mindblowing songs ive
ever heard..oooh and i love all is dream, but i like
deserter's much better now

offline fat kaimo from Finland on 2002-06-01 09:59 [#00245504]

i wouldn't say that godspeed you balck emperor! is "mogwai
with strings"... it's so much darker and deeper... anyway,
mogwai is awesome too.

anyone heard the new do make say think album "&yet &yet"? i
heard this one song "chinatown" and fell in love with it.

One track of theirs I really like on C.O.D.Y.
"Old songs stay til the end..." that one..
Mogwai & the Beta Band are the only semi/non electronic
bands I have bothered listening to in the last couple of
years

mogwai are immense: aside from rock action, i recommend 'ten
rapid' which is a collection of early singles and stuff -
that's my fave at the moment. also ep+6 which is a
collection of eps - many of those tracks are ace.

im going to have to agree with taoist blockade on the 'my
father my king' suggestion - that song is INTENSE.

godspeed are equally good, if not deeper - i'd reckon a good
starting point would be the 'lift yr skinny fists like
antennas to heaven' double album, or the 'slow riot for new
zero kanada' ep (which is like a mini album). anyone seen
those guys live? i saw them playing bradford not long ago,
and they were fantastiko

I have the new do make say think, I think &Yet &yet is their
best album yet, the drums and bass on the second track are
unbelievable.

i really like classic noodlanding from the new do make say

yea i've seen godspeed live, favorite concert of my life

and obviously i don't really think they're "mogwai with
strings", but it's a decent one sentence analogy for someone
who knows mogwai but not gybe!

i bought do make say thinks "&yet&yet" when i saw them live
at colchester - i think they were great - the only annoying
thing was some fat twat with a bad bad haircut dancing to it
like a retard . godspeed were very intense - i would
personally love to catch arab strap live . do make say think
imo are the most accesable of the groups mentioned with the
exception of sigur ros who are stunning - anybody got a
decent quality mp3 of the "duet" song that sigur opened up
at ATP with? that song is better than anything i have heard
of theirs before . what are set fire to flames reminiscent
of?

i have the set fire to flames cd, it's really inacessible
imo, but it's interesting at points, at least in
concept..and the last song is utterly depressingly beautiful

Has anyone heard Mogwai's cover of Don't Cry by Guns N
Roses. It's brilliant and shows that Axl Rose is actually a
good songwriter.
