anyone else relate to this. i find im often really good at making really neet sounds and loops and melodies and bass lines but when it comes to laying it all out into a song i either never get around to it or attempt it and just dont really get very far. im much better at part making not song making. hm... i suppose this is just something that gets better with hard work.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem and I get bored or constantly hearing the same little piece of the track and then delete everything out of frustration... Right now I'm not confident enough in making music

Same here. I has more to do with my laziness than anything... I have the songs in my head, and they're actually kind of cool, but I can't be arsed to find the sounds I want, takes too long to manipulate them the way I want. Then laying it all out into a coherent track... a pain in the ass. But I have some cool little snippets hanging around doing nothing.

My trick is to record a session with wathever I have before I file it for later work. I use a minidisc and find it very useful to listen back to what I have recorded. Its rewarding in itself in a way! Well, I never program the whole track with my software, I always record - liveish - on to disc. That way I can remix it if it turns out that I didn't like the first take or I can do additional programming if I want to make a completely different version.
