i'm sick of staring at a computer screen & wasting money on tangible software.
i have invested in an organ, Roland Juno-60, casio ctk-510, BOSS dr-202, & a SP-202.
what do you people use?

why dont u get a midi controller for ur computer?
that way u (almost) get the tangibility of hardware w/ the versatility and stealability of software...

because i believe midi controllers are a waste of money, when you can buy cheap/reliable hardware without having to upgrade all the time.

I have a Juno-60, and I love it. It is my favorite synth. Very good for ambient. That's it for actual hands-on gear though. Well, unless you count a drum kit.

I'm not particularly fond of Korgs. I mean, there's no doubt that the Triton and they're top-end synths are definitely amazing and worth raving over, but a lot of their products don't appeal to me. ;|

exactly... which would you agree luke, that Roland has and continues to make, SOLID: VERY reliable instruments/synths?
i particularly detest korgs use of colors. I enjoy a nice black casing w/weird color patterns... like on my Juno-60... personal taste though

Definitely--Roland is the choice for me and my needs. Korg tends to skimp on support for anything that isn't their top-of-the-line stuff. My Roland Jx-305 was relatively cheap, has lots of great features, and is a powerful sequencer and synth--so essentially it's only not a big-bucks synth because it doesn't have an inboard sampler, and since I use computers too, I don't need a $3,000 device to do all of that and have a couple more keys. Plus, I don't know of any Korgs with ADSR knobs and other real-time controls.

(in order of acquisition)
digitech rp-3 fx proc. roland tr-606 beatbox yamaha djx rompler/midi ctrl roland tr-626 beatbox ibanez digital delay pedal mackie vlz-1202 mixer yamaha tx81z fm synth korg poly-800 subtractive synth roland mc-50mkii sequencer yamaha ry-30 drumbox akai s2000 sampler
the poly-800 broke about a year ago. the tr-606 broke sometime within the last few months. I use the ry-30 mostly for sequencing the s2000 now. and the djx is strictly a controller.
I want to get an electribe ea-1 (for sequencing, mostly) over the summer and maybe an er-1 (I was fucking around with a store model and the real-time control on this is fucking cool...!)
I've yet to play a live show. my favourite toy right now is my sampler, mostly cos I've only had it for 2 weeks. the only 2 pieces of software I use regularly for sound are audiomulch and cooledit.

haha...I have bad luck with gear malfunctioning, and unfortunately my digital camera has fallen to this as well.
however, most of this stuff can be viewed at vintagesynth.com.
the ry-30 isn't there; here is a picture. here's one of my mixer. my delay pedal doesn't have a picture online as far as I know, but it's just a standard-fare early digital delay pedal with time, feedback, and level knobs.
here's one of the DJX. it looks like a toy, and it basically is - though it's also a decent MIDI controller.

does nobody here use an atari with cubase? i do, and it's really great. it never crashes, it runs 100% on-time and it looks cool ;)
my intruments are cheap shit, though:
- zoom st224 sampler - mam mb33 synth - yamaha rx-17 drummachine - some yamaha multieffect (forgot the name)
for recording i use logic audio. in my opinion, it runs better than cubase.

yo numbplant, get a cheap sampler (old old Akais are like <$100 and yamaha TX16Ws are aboot $150) and any keyboard that has the word "MIDI" on it (as low as like $20). that's a start. getting shit to sound cool takes a lot of work though, no matter what you use.
