yikes...anyone notice .NU getting a bit slow this
morning...

Could be due to the link to .NU on Slashdot...luckily it's
not on the front page but part of a thread about the good
old AFX WL face thing that Wired seem to have
ressurected...

I went to slashdot before, those guys are some serious
intelligent nerds. I didn't follow most of what they were
talking about... I forgot about that place, it takes forever
to scroll those messages though.

It did used to be good for the first few years but there are
too many voices on there now...

There a big Slashdot Linux bias and they are totally anti-MS
but as long as you nread between the lines, you can
generally learn a hell of a amount about things from
there....when I'm feeling HardCore Geeky, Slashdot is a
great cure..

Interesting Post from /.

"He's also put data into his songs which can be extracted.
On his "Richard D James" album, there's two tracks with ZX
Spectrum tape headers at the beginning and ends of the
tracks which can be read into some spectrum emulators.

Recently, he released a single called "Two remixes by AFX"
featuring a remix of 808 states flowcoma. The last track
titles "Bonus High Frequency Sounds" is basically a data
track from some computer (not a spectrum), hopefully someone
out there would recognise its sound and extract the
information out of it, because I've tried and all I've got
is junk data... "...

hmmm..I always was a little suspious of that 3rd track on 2
Remixes...wonder if it is data as this post suggests...I
doubt rdj would bother to tell anyone and will want til
someone works it out (like the WL face..)...I hope someone
from /. comes up with an answer (if 100,000 geeks can't
recognise the format, then no-one will...)...

Very interesting indeed.

Fact or Fiction?

I think AFX does this a lot...puts little things/extras in
tracks just to amuse himeself...

And I reckon he gets a buzz out of not telling anyonr about
it....

Can't help thinking that 3rd track must have some rhyme or
reason to it; it's not exactly a kicking bit of music...so I
wonder what it really is...

It could be one signal modulating another, it does sound
very data'ish...but fuck knows how you'd go about taking it
from there...

(I know "sounds Data'ish" is an odd thing to say but when
you've spent years loading in old tapes into home computers,
you do get some feeling for the sound of data....similar to
how a Fax machine transmission is formatted, you can hear
the diff segments...)...
