I used to really like kesson daslef, till it was used in an
advert for a cop show.

I used to really like "Put a lid on it" by the squirrel nut
zippers, till it was used on that stupid fake tan advert.

Can anyone else name tracks they liked that just aren't the
same once they've been used on adverts?

No, I don't think so. The artist gets royalties and the
song/track gets more air time. The only thing is, it depends
on what the advert is....and whether or not the artist would
want the association.

Yeah i know what you mean....

But sometimes it can have the oposite effect.

Like "Teddybears STHLM - Ahead of my time" was played alot
on the radio and i didn't really notice it until it was in a
beer comercial togheter with some cool images.
First then i realized how fat and funky it really was.

And a levis comercial with "crosstown traffic" got me into
Hendrix a long time ago.

'bentleys gonna sort you out' by bentley rhythm ace has been
played on tv so much its lost all meaning to me.

Yeah, it's cool if it happens that way round, but if music
has special meaning to you or imagery you associate with it,
itcan be ruined by adverts.

nah, it doesn't bother me at all... if it's a good song, and
the commercial gets it to more people, then great!!

hah, actually it was that very same advert that got me into
that track! but I think if I was already into it i'd be a
bit pissed off.

I was all mad when Amon Tobin sold the sixth song on
"Supermodified" to Coke, of all companies....but then I say,
you know, if I had to sell a couple of tracks to keep myself
making more (instead of wasting time at a 'everyday job),
I'd probably do it too.......

For me, there was one unwanted consequence. I saw an ad for
a child abuse hotline on TV. The background music was "An
Ending (Ascent) from Brian Eno's Apollo. Now whenever I hear
that song, I think of a sad little kid sitting on his bed
crying.

I think I saw the ad on Sky 1, maybe someone else knows what
I'm talking about. It might have been 2 years ago or so.

not living in england..i dont see too many tracks i like
being used in ads...
and when i do i just think its kinda neat...
like 4 on the anti drug ad seems kinda funny to me

sometimes ill see an ad and then start listening to the
track a while later..and forget it was even in an ad...like
the amon tobin track...i remeber seeing that commercial..and
thinking..wow..thats a cool track...but.. its a coke
commercial..
and then when i got supermodified earlier this year i
completely forgot the commercial...

however...now that ive started listening to stereolab's
parsec...it does vaguely remind me of vw bug commercials...
and that four tet track 'everythings alright' does kinda
remind me of that nike commercial with the people jogging in
the rain...im sure those associations will fade away after a
while though
