I know one of you guys has to be able to help me. I was restarting my computer and turned it off. Now whenever I restart my computer it won't bring up Window 98. It gets as far as this all black screen with white writing on it and has a prompt reading:
C:/Windows> _ and this line is blinking waitng for me to type things.
I typed a bunch of things and all said invalid command, and when I typed start it read, windows is not available in DOS mode.
My computer is a PC Sony- VIAO. I tried Sony. but they were no help and I know one of you guys can save me. Luckily I have access to a computer lab at my college or I'd be screwed.
Any help is GREATLY APRECIATED

It's hard to tell. Another thing you might want to try is hit 'F8' while your computer is restarting right when it says "Starting Windows 98..." or something. It should bring up a menu from which you can choose whether to go straight to windows or to command prompt.

tropa-
Thanks so much for the info. I'm now gonna go home and try it out. I was talking to people at school and they made it sound like I'm going to have to erase everything... If so I'll die. I have so much shit I need on there, and new songs I made that I can't redo. :(

OK... SOME progress. I typed "win " and that gave me the option to get out of MS-DOS mode, but now my computer is totally fucked up. The icons are super huge, and I tried changing the monitor resolution, but it won't work. The colors are also flat and pixalated. My mouse won't register and I tried unplugging it and replugging it. The only thing that works is my keyboard which allows me to get into the start up menu, but without a mouse it's sort of useless. You guys helped me before so I'm hoping you can help me again. I cross my fingers, waiting in the college computer lab.

I can't download anything because I can't get online. I think I'm just gonna have to shell out cash and try to get it fixed. It's not worth all the stress it's causing me. It's so annoying. I wish I was a computer genious.

my computer was going all weird for a bit... I couldn't turn it on, it just wouldn't come on... then I brought it to the shop, and when I got home they called and said it worked perfectly... and so I went back, and it did... then when I brought it home it wouldn't come on until after a lot of trouble... I would hook up all the plugs, and try it, and it wouldn't come on... then if I unhooked them all except the main power chord, and the monitor, it would... it was weird... it's working find now though, it seems...
