im sat here in front of my mc3o3 now ive been given a task from college to make a synthesised indian raga! the main problem being that it has to be one minuet long no less no more?
now ill make the tune in 4-4 time sig what i want to know is how the hell do i determin the length of the track is it by tempo or measures or what?

= 240bpm with 16-16 ...erhmm...thats how i would do it

yeah, 120BPM (or multiples like 240) is a good one to go for as it gives you 2 beats per second...or 1 Bar (4 Beats at 4/4) gives you 2 seconds...
So 30 Bars at 120BPM gives you 1 minute exactly...

Dude, you should tell them to fuck off. Raga can not be one minute long. That's not a fucking raga then. Raga needs fucking time to develop. It needs to be affiliated to a specific time of day, to a specific season etc. What they want you to do is ridiculous. Drop out, be a bum!!

chers guys! meho i think the tutor that gave us this task was being gentle on the nonmusical students in my class!
he gave us a scale and told us to make an indian style tune from the raga notes?
lets just say im th only enthusiastic student on the course with any type of hardware (or interest in music)

Uh, what kind of class is that anyway? i'm guessing it hasn't much to do with music, but lots to do with computer/ math?

yep its more studio technology based than musical theory! and a lot of the students are only there coz it beats working a real job (bastards)

nope its a part time college course but i work here some days as a techi (which just realy involves slying off for spliffs and working on my protools tunes!)

Ahh, nice. it sure beats real job. But that one minute raga insanity... If I was indian I'd really be pissed. Any indian people there?
