I like any of Pavarotti's opera stuff. Especially m'appari tutt'amore or however it's spelled.

I agree with Inverted Whale and here's some more suggestions:
Wagner: Overture zu tannhauser, O fortuna, Ride of the Valkeries
Stravinsky: Rites of spring(sampled by coil!) Shostakovitsch: Symphony 8 and 10(quite dark) Beethoven: symphony 6(light) and 7(heroic) Mozart: Pianoconcertos 20 and upwards, Stringquartet Dissonance
Sibelius: Finlandia Vivaldi: The 4 seasons Saint-Saens: Carnaval des Animaux, Symphony 3

I recommend works by: Penderecki (Try Matrix 5, some of the most beautiful and revolutionary use of traditional orchestral instrumentation that I am aware of)
Stravinsky Peter Sculthorpe Arvo Part (My favorite choral works aside from those of J.S. Bach)
Frank Zappa (Yellow Shark and Perfect Stranger contain some of my favorite modern chamber music)
Toru Takemitsu Samual Barber (Try his essays and the Adagio if you haven't already)
Alben Berg Bela Bartok
There used to be some links to information sources for some of these here : www.angelfire.com/ny2/cwood they might be gone by now, but maybe worth a check.

That's odd, I just did a search on what Beethoven had composed and he only did one composition for organ (WoO.31) and that was when he was very young. I don't think that he's commonly known for his brilliant organ pieces...

yeah, but many of his orchestral works is often being "translated" to organs.

you mean "transcribed" -- i also love the organ of bach ;) rising above the deliberate inuendo, i love the musical offering of bach and the art of fugue - sometimes i find bach so intense that it almost makes me insane :)
to add to beethoven symphonies - i think No 6 is really beautiful...
my other selexions....
01) GRIEG - piano concerto in A minor 02) ALBINONI - adagio in G minor 03) CHOPIN - 1st piano concerto 04) DEBUSSY - claire de lune 05) GRIEG - in the hall of the mountain king 06) VIVALDI - guitar concerto in D major

"sometimes i find bach so intense that it almost makes me insane"
yeah, i know exactly what you mean...last night i listened to Bach's "Passacaglia c-moll" on an organ works cd, and it was being played so fast i couldn't believe it. like tons of note at the same time, so perfectly structured.....reminded me of the snare-rushes on Come To Daddy :)
Almost made me think that maybe there was an extra set of hands involved....
