I keep getting emails from various sources... they all say nothing, but are about 100-150k in size... I get them like twice a week. No attachments or pics or anything. I opened a bunch of them at first absent mindedly and thought, ''what the fuck''... deleted them.
Could they be viruses? I have a lot of anti-virus stuff on my computer.
I got two in the last two days, and I stupidly opened them (I should be more careful), and they said something like...
Hi. This is my new exciting game. You're the first to try it. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks.
Again, about 150k.
IT'S CREEPY!!! WHAT GAME?!?!?!

Alright, glad to know I'm not being harrassed by some internet psycho! My messages are usually blank, but the game thing is the last straw, I'll never open another one. My virus thingys aren't catching anything, so I think I'm fine...

That same virus got into most of my college's email lists and I get them everyday... my math professor got 124 in one day..... Ophecks, if you opened them, it may have sent the same message to everyone in your address book....but I'm not sure what exactly these viruses do other than that....

Yes, there is a security hole in Outlook that allows this to happen and several virii take advantage of this. Either get the security fix for Outlook or use a better email client.

It depends. The danger with web email is if the service doesn't filter javascript and java out of your messages. Then it would be possible to run code on your computer and take advantage of a security hole in the web browser.
I know Yahoo removes javascript and java tags from messages, I have no idea about hotmail.
The best defense is to keep your browser up to date. Disabling javascript and java is a good idea if you're really paranoid, but so many sites depend on javascript these days.

i once got a virus via morpheus 'cause i installed some 'crack search engine'. the program worked pretty fine but after a week or two i found out that everything i had typed was sent to a weird ip somewhere UK (i think), even when i was offline everything was stored and sent afterwards. if i had used a credit card then, i'd probably got some serious problems.

You know what could be annoying? If you got an e-mail that said "Girls have fun on webcams" and you decided you wanted to see it, so you open it and it turns out to be a bunch of 8 year olds playing jump rope. Being a straight female I probably wouldn't run into that problem but it could be annoying nevertheless.

I use hotmail, so will a virus in an e-mail in my hotmail account be able to infect my computer if I don't open it? Or even if I do?
