Anyone own an mp3 player of any kind? I'm going to return mine for various reasons and want to get another so tell me about your mp3 player and why you like it/dislikeit, or what mp3 player you would suggest and why. Also, I'm on windows and heard of a program called EphPod which makes the ipod work with windows, anyone ever tried or know anyone who tried this? -x |

I have an old Rio 500, I like it a lot. I have no idea if the current Rio models are any good. A friend has the iPod and loves it (but you pay a price premium). The Creative Nomad seems to be its closest competitor, but it uses slower USB compared to iPod's firewire. You've really got to see the iPod's transfer speed to believe it ... |

do you know how much music i can get on a 32MB flash card ? in a store nearby me, their selling a mp3 player for about 100 dolars with a 32MB card and i can get 96MB with it. should i buy it ? its a thomson pdp2222 |

I'm waiting till they are cheaper, I used to have a rio, and the fact it didn't jump and used little battery power was great.. my MD player now is a bit fucked and has no bass and makes everything sound metallic like stuff on come to daddy...which should be good but isn't |

32 MB isn't enough. You'd want 64 at least. If you buy a 32 MB player make sure you can expand it. |

Xanatox: dont bother with those wimpy little 64mb ones... like the rio and nomad either go for an mp3CD player, or one of those big, seroius mp3 players (the multiple gig ones like iPod and Jukebox) w mp3 players to check out: Apple iPod Creative Jukebox 3 (the "3" is important) the apple is more expensive, but smaller (the only one thats realistically pocket sized i think, which is important IMO) the jukebox 3 has twice the storage space, and TONNES (i mean tonnes!) of xtra little features... like time stretching! TIME STRETCHING ON A PORTABLE PLAYER!??!?! ..........yup ........but the jukebox is bigger/heavier... BUT THERES MORE: an mp3-cd player would have the added benefit of playing normal audio CDs... and being much cheaper (and smaller than the jukebox 3) the "iRiver SlimX" is THE ONLY ONE you need to consider its the only one thats actually SMALL (the size of a small NORMAL CD player.. much smaller than other mp3cd players) plus, it has an AMAZING remote, w/ a great interface, tonnes of features, and supposedly a great sound too (actually, a friend of mine recently got one and it is as good as they say in the reviews) ....uh... ok i just realized how long this post is i know all this because i am also considering getting one soon, i didn't research it all just for u ;) |

I would go for the mp3 cd player... I was going to get one over Christmas, but I don't have a writable cd-rom so I figured what's the point? So I bought a good ole normal audio cd player... |

I've got a Philips Expanium 303 MP3CDplayer... Cost around £100 ($150) about 6 months ago....so will probably be cheaper/be replaced by a better model by now.... and I fucking love it...no skipping, loads of storage (700MB per disc) like 10 Hiqual Albums per disc at least....great battery life, smooth headphones... Will be getting a HD version as soon as they a) have 30Gigs b) cost a lot less...but for now, this thing is the bee knees...been using it everyday and haven't found much to fault about it (other than the size)... I couldn't cope with only have 32 or 64MB...no way near enough room for me... Phillips are a good make as well; they created the CD in the first place so they know what they are doing...check em out; I bet they've got some even better models now... I reckon it'll be at least a yr or 2 before MP3Players get enough storage & the price is ok...until then, this'll do me fine... |

... Nice selection of diff models...mines the EXP303 with CarKit etc..down near the bottom...but they've got some nicer newer model theres... def worth checking out ... p.s. no, I don't work for Philips :)... |

I own an iPod and a PC. I use ephPod, and I'm not having problems with it. especially with the latest version. it's great, I owned three other types of hard drive based players (archos, pjb100 and treo) and none of them come close. the iPod is small enough that you can take it *anywhere* without worrying about it. it sounds far better than those three, reliable as can be and looks gorgeous (but you already know that). it's hella expensive though, and most of us could use more space for an explorative shuffle. if sound quality and space is more important to you, go for the rio riot. it uses slow USB and is more bulky, but it has 20gb, awesome DJ functions and (probably) the best sound quality for a hard drive based player around. or you could go with the even bulkier nomad3. if you do, you might want to wait until they release the 40gb version. |

I owned an Archos Recorder 6GB, returned it because I wanted more space. I bought a NEO Jukebox 20GB which I own now but am really not happy with. The things I'm considering are: Ipod (10GB) Drawbacks -- Might not work with my PC IE1394 Firewire, might not work with my PC at all, damn expensive. Nomad Jukebox 3 Drawbacks -- Fucking huge. Archos 20gb Recorder Drawbacks -- Heavy, I won't be able to take advantage of USB 2.0 because all I have is USB 1.1 and Firewire. iRiver SlimX Drawbacks -- Only 700 mb per CD, it may be slim but carrying around a CD case kind of defeats the purpose! RioRiot Drawbacks -- Stupid ass software to load files on, can't be used as portable hard drive, kindof expensive compared to other 20gb players. Nir: How does the Ipod work with EphPod? It creates a new drive when you plug the ipod into your fireware and you just drag and drop files? |

Might be worth waiting a few months if you can...the market is still pretty young and a lot of products are still kinda first-generation...Somethings gonna come along to attempt to go for Ipod market but at a far sensibler price... How cool would a an IPod capable of playing 2 files at once thru somesort of built-in mixer or 2 sep outs be??......like a portable version of traktor...mmmm...is there anything like that out there?.. |

Xanatos: i had the original diamond rio, 32 mb..... but i guess my experience w/ it is pretty irrelevent now a days... (btw: sorry for misspelling ur name.. d'oh!) anyways, the thing about the iRiver... in the morning, you could just pop in whatever CD u feel like that day, and 700mb should be enough to last u a day ur not going to go through 20gigs in day! unless, of course, if ur mood changes during the course of the day... in which case ull be screwed! so, just get the iRiver, and keep ur music mood constant for each day! personally, i think im going to wait a couple years until the size of portable mp3 players (the multi gig ones) comes down a LOT while the iRiver might defeat the purpose of carrying around LOTS of music.. big harddrive players defeat the purpose of CARRYING around lots of music |
