To dirty little bitch . . . When AFX first came out, his music was unique, and there weren't 1000s of electronic labels fighting for attention, so his stuff naturally floated to the surface. Even if you put out 2001s version of Analogue Bubblebath 1 today, it would probably sink without trace, due to the saturation of the market. So any form of publicity should be grabbed by anyone getting their stuff out there . . . And secondly, it actually was AFX who told me about his music, via an ancient interview in Mixmag. |

DLB: I do get what you're saying, but I really think that things have changed since the days of Didgeridoo. There is a worldwide electronic community now, this music has become the new folk music, and if someone wants to push their stuff on a message board like this then good luck to them, becuz nobody else is going to give them a platform. . . If this kid hadn't told you about his stuff, you would never have known about it. Maybe a tiny review in a small magazine that you'll never read would have been all the publicity he ever got. And AFX wouldn't have got the interview with Mixmag had R+S, his label at the time, not sent out a press release with a free promo 12" to them. Just because someone gives you the news of a release first hand, ie. not thru a review or interview, does not mean that that information is any more 'pushed' into your conciousness. |
