I'm pretty sure Leftfield is associated with musical styles like Garage, Punk, and Grunge. Couldn't tell you exactly what it sounds like, but that's what I've gathered in my experiences.

there are some that say that the genre leftfield is named after leftfield (as in leftism, rythm&stealth).
then there are some that say it's just another word for 'indie'.
I don't know.. I never use it.

My friend (who is into leftfield music) say leftfield (the band) aren't actually leftfield in genre. Leftfield refers to being "out there" which the band surely are.
I saw them live with Utah saints before they (leftfield) broke up. It was a good night.

This is the leftfield that did afrika shox right? I wouldn't consider them punk or grunge...I always thought of them as electronic with a litle bit of reggae thrown in on some songs.

Leftfield in the music reviews refers to left-of-field music, or what we seem to call IDM. Its generally stuff that can't be pigeonholed into d n 'b, house, breaks, garage, techno or trance.
I didn't know the band Leftfield had split up. Leftism is a classic. esp Song of Life.

It's just another term to use now that "alternative" has been entirely spent from whoring.

There's 'alternative' rock now that is as alternative as my arse. Ahem. Nickleback for example have a grunge sound but its well shit and its bought by total doughnuts; people who have Travis and Moby in their collections - fuckin vermin.

Yeah, that's just natural I suppose: look at Pearl Jam who used to be very "alternative" an' all and now you have all these bands ripping their sound off completely but adding a classic cock-rock posture to it. This is why "alternative" has become a dirty word and why "those who know" use the term leftfield.
