heres the situation: you make mankinds first contact with aliens.... and you have a chance to let them hear some music (we're assuming they're capable of hearing and making sense of music) you have to choose a FEW (im not putting a # limit on it, so please keep it at JUST a few!!!;) pieces of music... .......[individual songs, albums, movements, symphonies, whatever]..... ..that will: REPRESENT HUMANITY!! (..and should prob. try to make it a GOOD impression ;) heres my list: Mozart (something from him.. im not gonna pretend to know a lot about 'classical' music) Beethoven (again..) Miles Davis - Kind of Blue The Beatles - One (the greatest hits thing) The Roots - (something from them..) Autechre - Chiastic Slide Squarepusher - Go Plastic AND Big Loada Aphex Twin - ICBYD, Drukqs, SAW 1 some traditional african drumming Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? (yes, i realize my choices are very Western-biased..... oh well, thats what i know) |

You know how each material has a frequency at which it resonantes (and eventually breaks if it's loud enough), like the picture frame on my girlfriend's piano resonates on middle F? What if our music covers frequencies at which the aliens resonate (presumming they're not made of the same material as us) and they thought it was some kind of terrible sonic weapon. Have you considered that? :) |
