I read this on a website i like alot?...LOL..anyone know if
its true?

::

you know Weezer's hit single "Hashpipe", is actually not
really a Weezer song? It was originally written by a band
called The Shods from Boston who opened for Rivers on a few
of his acoustic shows. The Shods song is called "He Shot
Himself Up", download it from audiogalaxy and compare. The
Shods song was on an album that was never released (but will
be soon) but was a regular feature of their set for years.
Rivers was apparently such a huge fan of the band that he
used to shout out and request "He Shot Himself Up" live and
had Kevin, the Shods guitarist teach it to him. He was also
such a huge fan that he thought it would be a good idea to
blatantly steal the song’s riff and use it for himself.
Bomb dude.
:::

Anyone know anything about it....Just was curious...Cause I
read a quote from rivers saying how he took a bunch of
painkillers and drank until dawn writing that song....

???

Cheers!

hash pipe for me was the first sign that the weezer i loved
was dead. should i be happy it's not REALLY a weezer song,
or sad that rivers would steal a song that doesn't feel
right? (that's a rhetorical question by the way)

i haven't heard this shods song before, but the first time i
heard "hashpipe" i recognized it ripped off two songs i
love: the peter gunn theme and (more blatantly) "waking up"
by elastica (download THAT and compare). i made an mp3
contrasting the latter song to the weezer song, showing
exactly how weezer ripped off the elastica song. pretty
damning evidence. fuck weezer, they lost it years ago. i'll
check out this shods song.

I don't know for sure, but I read on the audiogalaxy
messageboard that both Weezer and the Shods stole that riff
(the key similarity between the songs) from the old batman
tv theme song
