I declare this ''go and get a life day'', but of course I
won't follow my own advice and I'll sit here eating and
listening to Super NES SPCs all day, yowza.

come on, it's the afternoon... all afternoons are good for
is lazing around and doing nothing... or in this case
listening to Boards of Canada... I can't wait for a new ep,
or album, or SOMETHING!!!! They should release all their
short films on a dvd thing or something, or put them on
there next album as an enhanced cd... that would be cool...

orange tyedye..walking around all hunched and loose
simultaneously and goin Heeeey Maaaan at every passerby and
then uncontrolably giggling and laughing...

How many BoC's does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

None. You do it yourself. The problem with BoC's is they
make you wait and wait and wait untill any work gets done.

ya i can't see how you could listen to more than one boc
album a day. it gets too boring

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2002-05-07 04:15 [#00208921]

BoC make gorgeous music... it's very emotional, and that's
all I ask for from good music... lots of times extreme music
like Drukqs or even Autechre might bore me because the
emotion element is so heavily buried underneath mounds of
percussion and weird rhythms... sometimes it's nice to have
music that is just, straight and simple, emotional... I love
BoC...

not that I think Autechre or Drukqs is sterile and boring,
quite the contrary... but sometimes, and quite often, it's
just nice to have something soothing, relaxing, and so damn
touching like BoC to listen to...

you made some very valid points here Funkmaster..made me
reevaluate my stance on Boards of Canada..maybe I wont be so
hard on them..hmm..food for thought...

cyke :)

Bright Orange Custard will always sound like Bright Orange
Custard...hmm..or maybe pudding..

I had something against BoC before I actually listened to
them, since everyone was making such a big deal about
Geogaddi, like it was the second coming. But once i
actually listened to the album, and their older stuff, I
understood :)

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2002-05-07 04:23 [#00208942]

I'm not of the opinion that an artist should change
dramatically with each release... I think that's an awful
lot of pressure to put on an artist... but I think they
should change over their career... I think Geogaddi
perfected the style of MHTRTC, and also incorporated new
things, and I'm looking forward to new stuff!!

I don't know--I have to agree with some of the negative
feedback for Boards.
Well, I like Geogaddi, on one hand. I think it's good; it's
something to hear, but I don't listen to it entirely often.
I just don't know... it's long and "Magic Window" is
downright stupid. All the short tracks are kinda bleah.

I liked Music has the Right to Children a hell of a lot more
than Geogaddi... but they're still amazing. Just less so
than they used to be...

has anyone ever heard their music described as "the feeling
you get when you wake up after a peaceful dream"?

i think that's a perfect way of puting their music into
words

offline xlr from Boston (United States) on 2002-05-07 04:40 [#00208969]

That is a good way to put it.

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2002-05-07 04:42 [#00208974]

Nope, it's definitely not the feeling I get after waking
from a peaceful dream.
That feeling would be something like complex ambient Aphex
Stuff, a really moving piano piece by Tori Amos, or
something very soothing like Blue Dress by Depeche Mode.
