New Aphex tracks dj'd by Luke Vibert

PostModernVancouver from Vancouver,Canada on 2001-07-06 01:39 [#00012615]

Just read our local College radiostation newspaper ( CITR
101.9FM) and it featured an interview with Luke Vibert.
They asked him the question about Aphex ever releasing any
new music and he answered that Aphex had been telling a few
people that he has a quadruple album ready for release (
well obviously its a double one), also Luke has been playing
new tracks by Aphex in his latest DJ sets and described them
to be very acid-y ( doesnt mean those are gonna be on the
album ofcourse).
Well , I didnt check out Luke when he came to town 2 months
ago, maybe someone else has seen him on his North American
tour??

Very interesting, PMV...! Hopefully RDJ will release
something new every year.

I think he meant the vinyl version by quadruple.

PostModernVancouver, I saw Vibert when he came to play in
Chicago. He did a terrific job DJing, and he was spinning
some alien shit.. could have been unreleased AFX stuff,
dunno. I was also very drunk, but there was this cool
visual show going on too and all kinds of shit. And before
his set I actually got to meet him and shake old Luke's hand
near the stairs. Afterwards he was down at the smartbar
spinning and my friend and I were behind the DJ booth
watching him play in awe. Luke's always smoking a spliff
and at one point in the set he passed his jay along to me,
and my friend and I both took a few nice hits and passed it
back. Wow he smokes some good stuff because it made me like
10x more drunk, thanks Luke!

Yer right mr. Frankfurt about it being the vinyl version of
the album, I also remember about 2 and half years ago that
about 6 months before the Windowlicker release that Luke was
playing WL in his dj sets and actually had it on one of his
archived DJ sets back in late 98 (on his own website), and
thats when there was still this debate going on if
Windowlicker was actually Windowlicker , since it first
surfaced about August of 98 on the net ( way before the
eventual Feb 99 release), remember that Phobazerio??

Yes, I did see Luke spin here in the fall of 1998, but tbh
wasnt too impressed, not because of his lack of mixing
skills, but I disliked about 65% of what he played, sorry, I
cant get into having Michael Jackson being played in a
current Dj set ( unless its totally remixed and fu*ked up),
I dislike nostalgia from 15 to 30 years ago in DJ sets..
But other then that he seemed like a really nice guy, and
yes smoking spliff after spliff, and smiling all the way....

I dont want to sound stupid but could someone tell me what a
ACID sounding track is?

What is ACID music?

Have AFX made some acid music?
(If, tell me wich tracks..)

Dont tell me that ACID is some wack hardcore rave type of
bullshit (like that Fantasia track).

I like AFXs gabba, idm, hip hop, trip hop ambient and drill
n bass music.

hmm don't remember him spinning any Michael Jackson, pretty
sure I would have remember that :P
if you get a chance to see Vibert live, take it because he
rocks :)

Micheal jackson is cool in small quantities. They played
some at this shite rock club i went to a bit ago. It was teh
highlight of the night.

Interesting...

I've been getting into Vibert alot more latly, some very
funky stuff. I'de love to see him live, since him and RDJ
are personal friends meaning he gets his hads and ear drums
on stuff we'll never get. Lucky bastard.

I agree with you completely, swimmyfishy. It's also got
some of the biggest style contrasts from track to track, so
the ear is always being served a fresh treat.
