i love the stuff i've heard and what ed played live so am looking to buy an album but which one? any thoughts? |

nu romantix is the only album I got :) but I've heard other stuff of his and that one is still my fav. all his songs have excellent fat synths and basslines. the nu romantix album also got very nice vocoder vocals. If you like cut the midrange drop the bass, you will love this. |

yes they rule! I used to live in the city next to their homecity and have been to about 20 concerts with them. what have you heard from them? a livingroom hush? i lurve airborne and made for radio. |

i saw them live - have been unable to get hold of the album yet but its releaed properly this month at some point i think. heres my review of the gig: Jaga Jazzist 12/04/02 The Spitz, London The promotional material suggests that Norwegian ten-piece Jaga Jazzist are like "Charlie Mingus with Aphex Twin up his arse" which in some ways is very true. Jaga Jazzist do sound like a Jazz band with an electronica artist trying to get out but the electronica element isn't used enough in the mix, but when it is the band are great! The Spitz is a tiny venue and to fit a ten-piece band on the tiny stage was amazing in itself, the band were squeezed onto the stage and overflowed over the sides. The band comprised of 2 drummers, 1 guitarist, 1 bass player, 1 trumpet (& double bass) player, 1 saxophone player, 1 flute player, 1 trombone, 1 tuba and a keyboards & electronics player. They also swapped instruments regularly just to keep you on your toes. At the start of the gig they resembled a bunch of music college kids just jamming together and it seemed like this gig could be a high school assembly, but as they got into the first track you realised just how strongly the musicians and instruments worked together. The end result was a fantastic show of strength of music and some extremely danceable tracks. The highlights include a couple of amazing solos. The first from the drummers who beat merry hell out of their kits, amazingly staying totally in time with each other whilst staring at one another and creating a mass of beats which ripped through the venue. The second solo was from the trumpeter, who demonstrated his amazing lung capacity by playing an immensely long solo, although even more amazing than his solo was the sight of him straight after sparking up a cigarette. Calling Jaga Jazzist a Jazz or Electronica band seems unfair. Calling them a jazz/electronica fusion band is also unfair as they are so much more than that. that's really funny.. I was listening to a livingroom hush the other day and wondered why they hadn't gone international with this one. their older stuff (jævla jazzist, grete stitz and magazine ep) sounds a bit amateurish produced, but is still strong. their live performances are the bomb though :) nice review, who/what did you write it for? |

i wrote it for absorb.org but it never went up! not sure why maybe not electronic enough. the drummer from jaga has an electronica side project who are playing soon at the same venue so am gonna go to that too! have you heard his side project? |

I've heard it.. it got rave reviews over here, but I think it's lacking melody. it sounds a bit like some of squarepushers harshest tracks. I've only heard it once in a recordstore, so I might be mistaken.. you should go check it out :) |
