honestly, i see a lot of people complaining; maybe they've
never listened to it in a nice set of headphones while
fux0red...hmmm i don't know.

i personally think it is one of thee greatest cds, (besides
ICBYD of course) but there is just so much sick ass shit in
here.

most people im SURE just skip over the piano peices, but if
you listen closely, there is a lot of damn soul in that
sh1t!!

do i have to remind you of "plenty harmonium"?

btw, the ending/breakdown on 54 cymru beats, ummmm, my mom
has never gave me a weirder look than after me making her
listen to it in the car one day,

It is a good album, in my opinion, I listen to it everyday,
at school, at home, in the car. Everyone I have played it
for has liked it, and they have never even heard of Aphex
Twin or RDJ. Most of them found it a bit odd, but none of
them disliked it.

i just think there's A LOT of filler on that album.
imo there's like maybe 5 really wicked tracks, and a couple
that are just good.
the rest is basically just shite.
i like the rdj album way more!

btw, i'm not a fan of ICBYD either. heh.

Granted, there were hella boring tracks on the CD that
probably were there to fill up disc space, but still it has
its high points.

dood
why dont you actually listen to those tracks instead of
skiping over them

you might find somethign there =] !!!!!

nah, the piano songs are there to give the listener some
time to relax a bit before the next hardcore IDMIDMIDM beats
kicks in. And it works well, in fact, i'm probably the only
one here who enjoys (yes, enjoys) "Father".

I've asked myself this exact question many times... if
anyone but RDJ made Drukqs, it would be praised as an
amazing album. But people expect too much of him... this
album is amazing.

There is some real crap filler on there... I despise Gwarek
so damn much... but there's actually not that much... only 1
or maybe 2 of the piano tracks strike me as boring filler.

offline Ctrl Alt Del from Ft. Worth (United States) on 2002-04-26 01:43 [#00194604]
Points: 2190 Status: Lurker

It does help you relax, just listen too it while you go to
sleep. It works! Until you hit one of those up beat songs. I
fell asleep to the first disc, only to wake up a little
later to blaring noises of 54 Cymru Beats.

agreed, people just want to slag rdj's work off now they
can't label him as a teenage techno genius. they just want
to make a ripple

They call it "noise". Well all sound is noise, all noise is
sound, all music is noise, therefore it is sound, music is
also sound therefore it is noise, therefore, RDJ
=music=noise=sound, I could think of hundreds of equations
but Ill save them for another time.

I think gwarek is junk and I'd call none of the piano pieces
filler. I do, however, dislike the answering machine
message and father--I'd consider those and gwarek filler.
Drukqs is great though!

If you're put up on a pedestal, you're more open to
criticism, and RDJ is on the fucking BIGGEST pedestal... Tom
Jenkinson would kill to have crazy shit like Ziggomatic and
Cockver10 and Vordhosbn, I think they out-Tom Tom himself.

Gwarek still sucks dick, though. :-)

gwarek is one of my fav's, too bad you havn't heard the bass
textures,,,,,,,,really, thruout the song they are soo
incredbile (but listening to the song on my cmoputer you
can't hear it at all, so i can understand where _you_ are
coming from.,

but trust me

if yo uactually heardteh bass textures i think you would
freak!!!

I have heard the bass textures. And my JVC amp and my
Klipsch kg4's with 12" woofers and my KLH 9915's with 15"
woofers can handle 30hz @ 130+ dB.

I listen to all my music with headphones first... sometimes
with Drukqs I get a desire to listen to the album, but when
I put it on, a few minutes in I just want to turn it off...
I do like some, but it just doesn't strike my fancy...

drukqs is my favourite AFX album so far...which is pretty
good going for me as I'm a fickle little bastard at
times...

but theres seldom a day go past when I don't hear a track or
2....

and as for this filler lark...rememebr, one mans meat is
another mans etc....

trax are just for relaxing between the other trax, thats
bullshit! nuff said

i think drukQs is as good as the other albums... it's a
different style... and i think it should be considered as a
whole, most of the tracks are not as "separated" as they are
in other albums (a bit like the first 3 tracks off ICBYD)...
it's the album which has its own feeling, not the tracks.

except gwely mernans, gwarek2, meltphace6 and some others.

Funny shit: as someone said ten days ago, it's amazing that
this album still manages to have at least 4-5 topics a week,
so many months after coming out. This is AFX MB after all,
but no other album has divided opinions this hard... BTW it
does have some filler in it... But as I said the previous
week on a similar topic, a good part of it is technically
stunning but otherwise rather shallow and empty. But ophecks
is right, was this a new artist everybody would be praising
this album in unison. Which, again wouldn't mean that
shallow parts are not shallow anymore...

theres 3 parts to drukqs, piano, drillnbass and other....i
personally love the other (like tracks 6 7 and 11 on cd 1
and lornaderek)..i find most drill great, but after a while
they get all samey (can anyone sit through ziggomatic?) and
while i think some of the piano pieces are well made and
interesting (the very first track, the last on cd 1) i cant
listen to any al the way through and cant find any emotion
in them no matter how good the speakers are...and avril
sucks

I think you'll find that some of those "filler" tracks make
excellent DJ mixing trax.....

And hasn't AFX said himself that he likes to mix classical
piano stuff with hard beats when he's djing....I know
ArchRival has done a bit of mixing with em and he'll tell
you how pukka they are for that...

Also...I've got friends I've done special versions of Drukqs
for....some just are into the piano trax, a few like those
shorter pieces (especially when mixed in) and others want a
full DrillNBass experience...

So Drukqs works in a different way for different
people...that's one of it's charms....

I won't argue with what you say, jand, as it's basically all
true... My complaints are, I think quite clear...

It certainly sounds a lot more digital than previous AFX
stuff...you can hear he's so much more computer based
nowadays compared to the analogue earlier days...

It's subtle but it is there....

Also, I think he's releasing into a world that has taken his
"sound" and created a whole scene around it....the sheer
amount of IDM out there has kinda dulled our ears to the
real originator; AFX...sonically we've heard most things
before...

I think that may have something to do with the controvosy
really...

p..s Meho...didn't mean you re: "filler" - just quite a few
people call those shorter trax that....

i dont think the fact that a song has nice bass can change
my view on the whole song. sure bass is important but its
not the whole song.

i wasnt particularly into drukQs, but i LOVE go
plastic....go figure.
