playing: i view videogames as a hobby mostly for children and don't particularly play them. although i will concede i play around on another child's toy daily i.e. my skateboards. but at least i'm not frying my brain on digital media...although i've had some pretty good faceplants that have definitely rattled my brain around and that's probably not much better. if anything, last game i probably played was over at my buddy's. he's got one of those new-fangled ps5s and a high def tv, so playing sniper elite 5 with all the gore/blood/x-ray killcam shit turned on is pretty entertaining & amazing, especially after he's smoked me up a bit and it makes the graphics just look insane.
reading: mostly don't believe in it. if "iq" is a thing...reading certainly doesn't increase it lol. i mostly write these days and get more satisfaction from that. i also have a hard time reading a book if it's not in one sitting, so for me to read a book, i might have to set aside a whole afternoon/day. luckily i read anywhere from 500-700 wpm depending on the source material, so i can plow through most books pretty quickly the few occasions i do feel like reading. neuromancer was probably the last actual book...like last year? btw, i consider "reading" to be only books, nothing else.
watching: don't watch anything mainstream/hollywood, anything made in the last several decades, have absolutely no cable, tv, or streaming services either. i just put something from youtube on as background noise usually. mostly skateboarding, music/music production. like that's probably 90% of what i watch. all the channels i'm subbed to on youtube are basically skateboarding, random electronic music, smaller death/black metal channels. this exact moment i'm watching uploads of 'the outer limits' on youtube, basically the only legacy media i'll watch is pre-2000s junk like that.

it's almost as if i intentionally stated that reading doesn't make you smart because i understand it's something that makes pseudo-intellectuals feel attacked (weird how badly they need books to validate themselves) and i knew it would draw out & illicit an ego response. the point is not that people keep failing my tests...it's that do they even understand exactly what *kind* of test they're failing? until they understand that, i can keep using it against them. maybe not let your egos control you so much? oh look: it's almost as if such behavior just confirms what i said about the ego of the individual hiding behind certain causes, virtues, politic, ideology, etc. when the reality is they're just being disingenuous egoists. these are the very people of our societies & cultures that need to be mocked & derided.
>:) <----- this actually confirms something...do you know what it is? any reason you decided to start mimicking this sort of response after i did it to you first? simple: whatever is effective against an individual is something they will often integrate as a form of attack response for themselves because they've come to falsely believe it's effective against other individuals as well. how is it that one can pride themselves on a supposed level of intelligence while continually projecting? this is just more confirmation of egoism; it's only the ego that projects. weird how a simple smiley can get under someone's skin to such an extent they falsely believe it can be used to get under my skin by doing the same thing in return. lol not gonna work, bud. i'm serious: if my little smiley wasn't effective against you, you wouldn't have tried to start using them back :)
surely i haven't baited anyone else's ego once again with anything i've said, right? right?

no it's just a laughable thing to say you don't believe in reading. it's also laughable to think that anyone who reads a book reads it to "increase their iq" or to feel smart or to validate themselves. and even people who think others who don't read are lesser than them at least have a reason to think so opposed to shallow people who think they are above others

Reading Gravity's Rainbow. I've been reading it for 4 years and I'm down to the last 150 pages. My IQ has gone down from the experience.
Watching not much really, I watched The Acolyte on Disney+, I liked the design of the interior of the Jedi ship. And all the actor kids that seemed to come from some terrible English stage school. I spotted one nod to KOTOR first game, but I'm sure there were more. And this post comes full circle.

I’m alone and my dog can’t grab the controller with his paws. We’ve tried it was very funny.
It’s great fun. Like playing an old 2D beat ‘em up but with better graphics and great animations. It’s probably the most fluid game of the genre that I’ve played.
Playing super Mario wonder today. Started over for the big screen. Before I had been playing handheld. Some games benefit from being played on a big screen though and this is one of them.
Reading the book of Thoth (tarot) and it’s a nightmare to grasp.

It's probably that whole "paralysis in the face of too much choice" deal. That + just getting old and everything loses it's sheen a bit.
My lineup as a young man was Star TNG 10-11, Seinfeld 11-11:30, then Letterman. There was nothing but informercials the rest of the night and we didn't have cable :(

shredder looked kinda fun, still play the odd beat em up from back in the day, despite their very limited and sometimes klunky gameplay and absurd lengths, cause i missed out on them back in the day.
its probably one of the genres that id like to see improved most like this,
without modernising the graphics. there is a few others out there in that league im meaning to pick up.
so far i havent bought due to the pricing, but im due to play those someday.
the gameplay and animations sure took some time and work be put in.

TNG was so fuckin good.
ijon right, especially after s3. But even s1 and s2 has some bangers...
I really liked Skin of Evil (the tar man who killed Tasha) in s1, episode creeped me out as a 7ish year old- esp when Riker got sucked in.
S2 has measure of a man, where Data is on trial for his right to live, one of the better eps of the whole series. But yeah... S3 is definitely where it gets great episode to episode.

Oh yes, i remember well how paralyzed i was by that tar creature.
I was litrrally mortified. And there's def good eps in the first 2 seasons.
I wonder if a similar series could work, keeping the concept of a big ensemble cast with plots resolving within 50min episodes with depth like in star trek.
But this time it was a ship moving about in a more perry rhodan like galaxy with a majority of non humanoid races that found ways to establish contacts and space travel with exosuits for example. It would enter new territory in tv to make sf more realistic. Visiting for us unihabtable places, like gas planets, high or low grav planets, toxic paces, include spheres and habs ans space ports that have multiple evironments for different species. havent read any rhodan but i heard a few unique things about it in sf and the time is ripe for a show like this. The possibilities are there. I would appreciate another exploration type ship as the enterprise with a highly developed scientific human society , or a next level ds9 or b5, but an adventure travelling rag tag band like farscape could be fun too.

Season 1 & 2 are definitely a mixed bag but even the crappy episodes are still pretty fun. One from season 2 that sticks in my mind apart from the episodes already mentioned is the one in season 2 where they find a casino on an gas giant and it has the skeleton of an early earth astronaut in one of the rooms and the book he was reading is what the aliens must had read and constructed the casino for him to make him feel at home. I thought it was quite a surreal setting and episode, i enjoyed it

Its a memorable one. The story and final resolution was nice, good short story stuff, however the casino was rather horrific. It felt too much like an inescapable nightmare to be a hospitable place for a lost person. It probably felt better for the astronaut and was an improvement over the barren mars like place though right.
However the one with the flute kind of had a similar setting while being more mind blowing and offering a broader pallette of feelings.
I think the whole idea is just amazing and one of my all time favs.
On the other hand its very comforting to show a being like the one having created the casino for an astronaut like a human would nurse a wounded animal. Its a rare story. I imagine the original script idea was more about that than the inescapable games and flat gamblers.
Being inside a created environment is a recurring story element in the show and usually one of the best. Who could forget Moriarty.
