shots fired!

FWIW I enjoyed Prey and forgot about it immediately.

I certainly didn't get triggered about it.

yeah, it's just a cool premise, the setting

sorry about the directness

some predator lore:
from what i recall. While i do definitely agree, it was his
first hunt as he was going after everything, i remember that
the director did state this predator wasn't the same as the
ones that we know. In the comics, there are many types of
yautja, and he wanted a more bare-bones type, so it wasn't
so overpowered. I think that is what makes this movie so
good, a director who knew about all of the lore(kindve) and
a great story. I mean, he always thought that the best fight
in the first movie was the one you didn't see with Billy.
That was his starting point, then it was Native Americans vs
Predator but too overpowered, so he went with this idea of a
Predator that isnt as tech heavy and more of like a first
scouting mission (in the movie they talk about the time
before, so it seems that predators send these bare bones
type to recon the planets first. However, like you hit on,
they still have the whole warrior proving ground where they
need to blood themselves. But when they came the first time,
humans were still too primitive so the planet was regarded
as easy. Now, with the predator being killed, it then gets
marked for the more superior hunters)

immediately.)

Somehow the whole movie vanished from my consciousness. I
meant, I didn't brood over it.

I don't see how it could be woke. Because a woman kills the
alien? That's been a thing since Ellen Ripley. Because it
showed European attitudes towards indigenous people? Well,
that's historical fact. You'd have to have been primed by
years of dumb culture wars bullshit to get your jimmies
rustled over it.

I should watch it again, it was one of the better entries in
the franchise.

i called it predator meets The Revenant, because it shows
American nature well. so that was memorable for me

also they teased a sequel in the end title animations, i
remember that and am hoping for it. would be a big war
between between the indigenous, possibly teaming up with
europeans and predators. or possibly a better idea

I don't mind watching people of any race on screen.

I just meant sometimes female protagonist works for a movie
- and sometimes doesn't or seems forced.

Is that racist ? Imo not.

Mandalorian series is a great example of that. I just
stopped watching it at the beginning of s03.

Have a nice day !

so it's a woman thing

same kind of hate

the movie's not woke. it's just a setting they choose. i
think you've been brainwashed into a hateful way of
thinking.

or i mean they didn't make the movie the way they did just
for scoring woke points. because i do like how they choose
the setting with the Comache and with a girl lead actor. so
i think it's progress that we can see a story from this
other perspective. it might even significant. here a cool
article about it: “For a period piece, it showed so much more cultural ac...

you don't have to like the movie. in fact you already tried,
so that's good. but i'd urge you, for your own good, to get
out of this way of thinking. it's better for yourself

you're not being hateful recognizing there's some epic
pandering going on and some high level pressure to take
existing properties and gender swap em.

Doesn't mean every instance is bad, prey mighta been cool.
But you're not being hateful, don't listen to that
jibberish.

I skipped prey because I have little tolerance for soft
reboots and the likes. A bad movie kinda ruins the rest of
the series for me. Didn't watch the new star wars or indiana
jones movies for that reason too.

Prey is a very worthy successor prequel

i guess i could see being a bit sceptical about Disney in
general. because of course they're an evil corp: anyone
should be anti capitalist

I'm actually totally with ya there, big

The capitalism function of always requiring growth has led
to the only movies being produced for theaters are big
spectacle super hero things designed for the "every man" (or
woman.) Big studio movies have been bad for awhile, before
this sorta progressivism took hold.

Studio *requirements* for specific levels of diversity (be
it racial or gender or what have you) are a curveball as
well, detrimental to pure storytelling.

Another curveball is the rise of The Streaming Movie, which
causes the studios involved to churn out only semi watchable
content but at a faster rate.

There are a lot of problems with movies right now, it's
truly a bad time for cinema.

The reason I made this thread was because I was so impressed
with I'm Thinking of Ending Things, which goes against every
current grain in every way possible. +++Charlie Kaufman, a
real treasure of cinema.

most of all: there isn't some woke conspiracy going on.
mostly it's marginalized groups claiming their piece of the
pie, and groups with privilege not wanting to give it up

even if we assume it's for marketing reasons, i don't see
how there's anything particularly wrong in itself with
making an effort to produce action films with women
protagonists for a change. as if white male muscle isn't
pandering.
but it doesn't matter because wolfslice and obara's opinions
aren't real anyway and they've just caught them from some
poison swamp. i'm sure they don't actively hate women,
hopefully!

Dimly lit back alley

Steam rising from the street vents. A siren wails in the
distance.

Russelldust approaches a shadowy figure on the street.

He opens his trench coat to reveal several clipped on VHS
tapes. Russell's eyes flirt over Bend It Like Beckham, Set
It Off! (with Queen Latifa), and Paul Blart Mall Cop.

Interested in some movies young man?

biography. I miss his short movies, they are all good. I

Actually I discovered him relatively late! Like around 2009
when there was some sort of retrospective somewhere. But yes
I was enchanted that someone was doing what he was doing and
that it was real cinema. He is an inspiration in the sense
that I'm very happy that he exists and he gives me
confidence in my aesthetic choices.

There was a retrospective at the Centre Pompidou in 2009. I
discovered him a few years before, randomly entering a movie
theater where he was to present "Brigitte et Brigitte" and
have a debate after the projection. I was very much
impressed by the film, and most of all by the man.
