No judgement thread, just tell us your level of IDM and if
you still listen or fallow the big names, are you more of a
newer IDM fan, have you quit iDM, your situation basically.

time passes and that term is still terrible.

there's a huge variety of nice electronic music on bandcamp
now and i suspect a bunch of us have huge collections there.
most of the old styles we used to like are still
represented.

despite that, two things i really miss are (a) shitty 1990s
string synths, (b) melodic focus (still within this
subgenre).

37.989087%
after a initial peak of 37.9989075% its slowly
getting back to its semi redundant state.

im tempted to count video game music into the equation tho
since most of it is tracker based bleeps. squarewaves and
noise channel

I'd say 60% of my music listening time is what my partner
calls "Plinky plonk music" aka IDM.

IDM is, of course, a terrible term. I suppose the difficulty
of labeling "this sort of music" is that it's more
identifiable by what it isn't, or what it skirts near,
rather than what it is. BOC could be Hip Hop but
isn't. Squarepusher could be Jungle but isn't. Four Tet
might not be gay but probably is.

it was an unfortunate name

and i guess the name is a strawman, too, it was never meant
to be snobby dance music, just music the maker and the
listeners enjoy

anyway, i'm a bit more into dance, now. and hiphop. but idm
is cool too

like 10%

as in i don't seek any out, particularly new stuff; click on
whatever youtube recommends in sidebar while listening to
playlists

buy cds every few years to catch up on big acts; due for
some autechre & aphex twin

although i think i decided in my personal life i'm going to
produce more because the format is relatively easy, so
they're good practice at putting out material quickly

most youtube music channels i'm subscribed to these days are
like noisy metal, ambient/vaporwave, really crusty punk

every new amon tobin album that comes out I listen to once
looking for another triple science, but instead it's some
well produced, but definitely messy, meandering beatless
sleepy thing that I never feel inclined to listen to ever
again.
