Just getting in before Umbro

Elektron Syntakt looks/sounds great. Bit of a shame that
there isn't a proper song mode, nor seperate analogue audio
outs. Otherwise, it'd be pretty much be my desert island
synth.

I end up using Monomachine's song mode to pattern switch
other Elektron devices. It's mad you end up having to merge
MIDI and route it back on itself, from both a Digitakt and a
Monomachine to get something that has probability trigs and
a song mode that isn't just chaining single patterns
together.

Roll on Cirklon. Only 3+ years on the wait list.

You've got a Cycles, so I imagine even the sounds aren't a
big draw for you?

ah i had a cycles for 2 weeks, made what i could with it,
then sold it on. at the moment im playing with a yamaha
a4000 sampler, i had one when i was 17 and starting out,
it's quite a nice sampler with great fx section.

all the good people left elektron, even the demos are not
that great imo. but song mode dudes, what i want to see is a
song mode.

TX-6 at that price is bonkers. You could get a brand new
Korg mw 2408 for 2/3rds of that pricing. I suspect the TX-6
it isn't exactly SSL quality, either.

Sampler wise, I'm using eSPi on the PC a lot. Love the
simplicity of the UI, how fast it is to make a beat and the
character of the sound. Only rack hardware one I've been
tempted by is an S950, but that's more about the timestrech
for me than as an actual sampler, so I just use Akaizer on
the PC for those duties. I'll probably eventually get a MUM
M8 for the filter off it though.

there are times when i wish i traded in my whole studio for
a machinedrum + monomachine + ocatrack combo and absolutely
nothing else. i could still sell everything and have only 3
pieces of gear to master for the rest of my life.

I keep on doing fantasy 'ultra rationalised' studio plans
like that. Strip it down to a few key pieces and then remain
in that state where you know *every* key-combo/trick, etc.
off by heart. With more than five or six bits of complex
gear, you can never quite remember every function to that
level where you don't have to think and your fingers just
dance like an extension of thought across all of them. Some
skills fade always creeps in just enough to break the flow
on one or two bits of gear, which ruins the overall scope
for that type of flow state.

Analog Rytm or A4 MK2 instead of the Machinedrum for me, I
think, but I'm with you on the others, Monomachine and
Octatrack would be two of mine, too.

I care about gear too much, it doesn't really help make for
better music
