LAZY_TITLE
6:22ish and throughout, tiny two chords with delay to make
it sound like 4 notes
not the Ferris Bueller vox but the little thing around
it,...
it's doing my head in, sorry to ask
i think it's like a sci-fi, mbe

It's quite funny (here comes a load of blah based on a very
thin assumption, like my other posts) that that tiny little
two note thing is a far more effective atmospheric and
memorable thing than any of the ridiculous onslaught of
current movie 'music' ...Like sad face Ridley wondering why
he can't recapture his past magic... take off the ridiculous
fucking 64 piece orchestra constantly playing could be a
start

yeah it the beginning of alien when you see the ship empty
and they are in their status pods. its one of the best sound
cues in film.

LAZY_TITLE love that bit especially the [gated

i bought the making of alien by J W Rinzler this month, its
300 odd pages so if it mentions anything about the sound
effects i'll let you know

>>>never been topped
it's strange cos sound-wise i don't think it is just
practical effects topping digital ones, it may just be a
lack of enthusiam, sad to say. No creativity anymore :(

id love to know how they made that Alien transmission bit,
sounds like spectral filtering, which was pretty expensive
and unusual in the 80s

(expensive computationally wise, and they didn't really use
computers for sfx stuff then, i reckon)

you know what I really love is when c3po is doing the sound
effects for the ewoks, and it sounds like its coming from a
small speaker

taping little bits off the telly, yeah... i don't wanna dis
ppl who started off learning proper instruments, but i think
i'd rather always hear ppl who like SOUND rather than
notation (although, i quite like looking at screenshots of
music progs which is basically the same tthing)

4k scan from the origianl 35mm film elements as well, its
fantastic has loads of audio options and no crappy cgi! its
ace

it never really appealed to me cos it seems too visual and
like your divorcing yourself from the sound in an artificial
way, i know scales and stuff they help alot, but i often
wonder how arbitrary it all is

wanna watch it
it's like, people from music departments fetishise
Stockhausen quite often but they'd be much btter off just
going after sounds/timbre like these fellas who do sfx, u
know... anyway...
have a good un dude!!
