[Poll] Xltronic's Top Albums of the 2010s

offline wavephace from off the chain on 2019-10-01 03:18 [#02586497]
Points: 3098 Status: Lurker

The 2010s are coming to a close and everyone is starting to
make lists of their top albums, so I thought why not create
our own Xltronic Top Albums of the 2010s list? Me and a few
other members have formed a committee and worked out some
simple rules.

***

[1] All Xltronic members and non-members are eligible to
vote.

[1a] Votes may be submitted in this thread or via my email
address.

[2] A "vote" consists of a list of albums, each with a
corresponding point value.

[2a] The sum total of all points in a single vote may not
exceed 100.

[2b] No single album in a vote my be assigned more than 20
points.

[2c] There is no lower limit to the number of points an
album may be assigned.

[2d] There is no limit to the number of albums that may be
included in a vote, as long as the point total is 100 or
less.

[2e] To make voting accessible to all people, we have
prepared a number of optional "Top 10" ranking systems you
may use.

[2e-i] The "flat" or "equitable" ranking system (Type-I):
All albums are assigned an equal number of points. This is a
great system to use if you would prefer to pick your
favorite album from each year of the decade. Point totals
are as follows:

1 - 10
2 - 10
3 - 10
4 - 10
5 - 10
6 - 10
7 - 10
8 - 10
9 - 10
10 - 10

[2e-ii] The "weighted" or "top-heavy" ranking system
(Type-II): The top album receives a high point score, which
decreases for each subsequent album. Point totals are as
follows:

1 - 18.18
2 - 16.36
3 - 14.55
4 - 12.73
5 - 10.91
6 - 9.09
7 - 7.27
8 - 5.45
9 - 3.64
10 - 1.82

[2e-iii] The "less-weighted" ranking system (Type-III): A
more equitable version of the weighted system. Point totals
are as follows:

1 - 12.90
2 - 12,26
3 - 11.61
4 - 10.97
5 - 10.32
6 - 9.68
7 - 9.03
8 - 8.39
9 - 7.74
10 - 7.10

[2f] If you choose to use an optional "Top 10" preset
ranking system, please specify which one you are using
(Type-I, Type-II, Type-III) in your vote or your vote may
not be counted.

[3] The final list of Xltronic's Top Albums of the 2010s
will be determined by the number of points each album was
awarded, with the album receiving the most points being
Xltronic's "Top Album of the 2010s".

[4] In the interest of gender equality, all albums by women
or non-binary folks, bands fronted by women or non-binary
folks, or bands consisting of at least 50% women or
non-binary folks will be have an additional point multiplier
of (100/77 = 1.2987) applied. This number is derived from
the fact women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns.
These calculations will be done by the committee after you
have submitted your vote.

[5] Any vote submitted by a woman or non-binary voter will
have an additional point multiplier of (100/77 = 1.2987)
applied to the point totals for all albums. (See section
[4].)

[5a] In effect, this means that a vote using the maximum 100
points submitted by a woman or non-binary person consisting
only of women and non-binary artists will have an effective
point total of 168.66 points.

[6] An album is not required to have been released between
the years of 2010 and 2019 to be eligible for inclusion. For
example, an album released in 1975 that was especially
meaningful to you during the years of 2010 to 2019 is an
equally valid selection.

[7] Albums by artists or bands that have expressed racist,
sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, Islamophobic,
anti-Semitic or otherwise bigoted views are not eligible for
inclusion.

[8] Voting will remain open until January 31, 2020.

[9] An extension in the voting period may be granted for
persons with disabilities.

***

Now let's all work together and make the best decade-end
list on the Internet!

Section 7 is going to rule out a lot of Rap music, which
might look a bit racist in itself...

Oh please. Here comes Roger to trot out that old canard
about People of Color being more homophobic that whites. I
guess we're supposed to believe you've never heard "Money
for Nothing" by Dire Straits—or as I like to call them,
Dire Straights.

Thank you, finallly someone with a serious list. I assume
you want them all assigned equal point values (100/29 =
3.45)?

Sorry but John Maus isn't eligible for inclusion on our
list, see section [7]. He's an unrepentant bigot who
appeared on Sam Hyde's alt-right sketch "comedy" program
Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace and never
apologized.

Wait, do you want additional points awarded to bands with
women on top of the automatic 1.2987 multiplier for women
and non-binary folks?

Also, this album "・・・・・・・・・ - CD" is
ableist because it's unsearchable and can't be parsed by
some folks who need electronic assistance and is therefore
ineligible for inclusion on our list.

multiplier to everyone

I've searched my heart, my hard-drive, my shelves and my
"play count" and I've come up with this. I am just going for
the flat Type-I ranking as time is short and I do have my
business to run.

Scott Walker - The Drift (2006)
Sleaford Mods - English Tapas (2018)
John Shima - The Lonely Machine (2019)
Map 165 - Of Adam Sleeping in the Lap of God (2018)
S>>D - Co Intel Pro (2018)
Biosphere - The Petrified Forest (2016)
Shinichi Atobe - Butterfly Effect (2014)
Autechre - NTS Session 3 (2018)
Main - Ablation (2013)
Have you ever heard music this good? -
CNNR/WKMN (2019 Unreleased)
