M.I.A. is cool music maker, but it's crap on "producing"
sounds,dude.

I was thinking about Soundlab20 and how it just shifts and
shifts and shifts and you can never quite get a hang on it,
you just have to let go. Skip through the track and
you'd think they were about 50 different tunes. But it
doesn't sound wanky, it's not fucking Mike Oldfield
(sorry if that upsets anyone)... it just glides all over the
shop... beautifully. I'd struggle to think of any "producer"
who comes near to his level of inventiveness and mastery of
his craft.

yeah your right, it took me aboit 50 listenings to get a
handle on it, its constantly mutating but it still really
catchy

I know this sounds masturbatory too but I mean it sincerely,
the very best aphex tracks are like who new metal landscapes
to explore for me, so ive been playing soundlab repeatedly

what is a producer anyway . . i'm not sure aphex even fits
the bill

i admit it would be interesting to have him produce another
band's record

Are you hesitating?

Maybe a bit crude by today’s standards but I loved what he
did for Merry Christmas mr Lawrence.

And his acting was kinda spot on afaic. I remember watching
that film as a kid, having a tv for the first time in my
room and staying up to watch it. I felt really grown up and
loved it. I knew I’d have to do military service later on
in my life and that film made me realise I wanted to rebel
and would never do it.

If we’re staying in electronic music, and not delving into
anything else... one has to mention Coil, or Autechre for
example, to mention just two.

he did with Roxy Music.

I love Aphex’ music by the way. But my god do fanboys stay
erect and go on about their erection. I’ve seen so many
Aphex erections by now I felt I needed a moan. I’m grossed
out. He’s no longer the edgy musician that gave you that
feeling of superiority for liking him back then, all while
you were being bullied. He’s kinda vanilla now. Trent
Reznor, anyone?

Love that Eno Track but had never heard of the Sakamoto one!
He really truly represents that eighties feel for me. Top.

Will you kindly fuck off!??!?!

I know why this has got under your skin/up your bum. I
know why. But I've the decency to keep it to myself.

The Decency.

TO MYSELF

To counter that I have to say that Syro is amazing
production wise and it’s not nearly mentioned enough. I
feel like the Aphex wrextion commity forgets Syro, like
it’s not hip enough to mention how utterly great that
album is.

Go on, why has this gotten under my skin? Enlighten me and
he other four people left here!

I don't like Syro, I think it's patchy and retrograde. I
like 3 tracks on it. Some of the tracks are impressive but a
bit... wank, a bit ... not something you'd play whilst there
was a woman in the house. The best track, "end E2", he left
off.

The idiot.

I heard he came up with soundlab20 while lucid dreaming in
his tank, he really wanted it to shift in ways no one
had ever heard before.

My uncle, as a young man, had a record produced by Meek.
He's got some odd... recordings, as far as I recall.

Never worked with Aswad as far as I know, though.
