Chirac will gain some political mileage out of this as he's calling people to unite behind him. The left should pose an alternative to what's being offered by the right and the reformist parties. Revolutionary politics is the only solution, there and here.
We saw a low turnout in the last general election because people realise that nothing changes no matter who you vote for. They can either go for extreme right politics or realise their own potential to change things.
The right is the politics of despair, the left is the politics of hope.
