Was just watching videos and wondered what you would tell
the woman in this video replying to this
video. It’s weird for me as both have valid points while
also being passive agressive at the same time.
She’s not being nice by saying trans women are men. Riley
on the other hand is being pretty agressive by inciting
hatred.

The feminist (forgot her name) seems to want be scientific
about it: you are the sex you were born with. It’s fine
being gay but not being a woman born with a penis basically.
I’m starting to think Riley hates a lot of feminists and
that she, Magdalene, hates men and trans women.

Where has my afternoon gone? Thanks Roger Wilco for making
me look up TERF... (fp)

but I think there is more to it than that,

nevermind, i can't watch either of those idiots, it's too
embarrassing

i'll quote radical feminist Catharine MacKinnon on the
subject and hope it's relevant to your query

1 -
Williams: Some assert that some women/females can have a
penis and that some men/males can have a vagina. What are
your thoughts about that?

MacKinnon: I am aggressively indifferent to it.

Williams: Do you think the “sex” binary is a social
construct?

MacKinnon: Actually, I first argued that sexuality is a
social construct, which is a good deal further along the
same lines than this pretty obvious observation.

Williams: In other words, if the very notion of a biological
sex binary is constructed, that would necessarily mean that
any sexuality predicated upon the myth of the sex binary is
also constructed? Are you saying that neither concept exists
outside of culture?

MacKinnon: Right. And that culture is among other things
misogynistic to the core, and misogyny is sexualized, that
is redundant.

more andrea dworkin, this is from fuckin 1977

As a class (not necessarily as individuals), we can bear
children. From this, according to male-supremacist ideology,
all our other attributes and potentialities are derived. On
the pedestal, immobile like waxen statues, or in the gutter,
failed icons mired in shit, we are exalted or degraded
because our biological traits are what they are. Citing
genes, genitals, DNA, pattern-releasing smells, biograms,
hormones, or whatever is in vogue, male supremacists make
their case which is, in essence, that we are biologically
too good, too bad, or too different to do anything other
than reproduce and serve men sexually and domestically.

ah, right, here's the other mackinnon quote i was
looking for

Certain things that I have had an inkling about have
grown over time, for example, concerning transgender people.
I always thought I don’t care how someone becomes a woman
or a man; it does not matter to me. It is just part of their
specificity, their uniqueness, like everyone else’s.
Anybody who identifies as a woman, wants to be a woman, is
going around being a woman, as far as I’m concerned, is a
woman. Many transwomen are more feminist than a lot of born
women who don’t much want to be women (for understandable
reasons), who don’t really identify with women, some of
whom are completely anti-feminist. The fact that they’re
biologically female does not improve things.

To me, women is a political group. I never had much occasion
to say that, or work with it, until the last few years when
there has been a lot of discussion about whether transwomen
are women. I discovered I more or less have always had a
view on it, developed through transwomen I know, and have
met, including prostituted ones, who are some of the
strongest feminists in opposition to prostitution I’ve
ever encountered. They are a big improvement on the born
women who defend pimps and johns, I can tell you that. Many
transwomen just go around being women, who knew, and
suddenly, we are supposed to care that they are using the
women’s bathroom. There they are in the next stall with
the door shut, and we’re supposed to feel threatened. I
don’t. I don’t care. By now, I aggressively don’t
care.

.../...

offline dariusgriffin from cool on 2019-06-04 18:21 [#02579233]

.../...

Simone de Beauvoir said one is not born, one becomes a
woman. Now we’re supposed to care how, as if being a woman
suddenly became a turf to be defended. I have become more
impassioned and emphatic as I have become more informed, and
with the push-back from colleagues who take a very different
view. Unfortunately some people have apparently physically
defended their transition, also. This kind of change
develops your views is a further in response to a sharpening
of developments in the world. But the law Andrea Dworkin and
I wrote gives “transsexuals” rights explicitly; that was
1983. We were thinking about it; we just didn’t know as
much as it is possible to know now.

so there you go. looking forward to roger wilco's ungraceful
snark

i quoted pro-trans or at least trans-compatible radical
feminists because that's really the subject at hand here: is
radical feminism compatible with trans acceptance or is
transgenderism a terrible liberal feminist (a.k.a.
antifeminist) fad?
sadly these days most people think it's a choice between
"woman means adult human female" (an amazing truism) or
"actually there are as many genders as there are people"
(no, gender is a perpetual coercitive assignation and all
you can do is get assigned to one of the socially recognised
genders, of which there are two in western societies)
