What songs do you like to listen to to get you through a rather glum and humdrum soul sucking day? I like to listen to island life because it whisks me away to an empty island in lovely sunshine. In reality I would last about 4 days in this situation before dying but, for a few minutes at least, this song give me hope that I could make it on the island and, by extension, can handle life in general.

Gosh, reminds me to play Scott 3 and 4 (Scott Walker), and maybe some Nick Drake. It’s been ages!

The Walker Brothers did some cool stuff, then you have Scott 1-4 (last two are the best), then he made Tilt and never looked back (quite experimental). You’ll have a blast!
This is our song with signeduptolol.

I absolutely love how a decent playlist or mix can bring you up from nothing, just putting one tune after another.... Tapes were great for that because ffwding was so bothersome

it's a bit fetishised now (guilty of it myself) but nothing beats banging a tape in. there was a real art to making compilations too, me and a mate got properly into it in high school, made big fancy gatefold packaging and allsorts :)

yeah it was so wicked that you had something in your hand that someone else had spent actual time making, like - they had to sit there and listen to the tracks play out in order to record it... that's at least 60 minutes of someone else's time that they are giving u, + the time thinking about the tracklisting (which is often a lot more, obssessing over it, etc.)

People think that MP3 is some sort of transparent thing, that just complements other stuff, but it changes it totally.... don;t wanna sound like a cunt but ppl should read some Marshall Mcluhan or summat

yeah there is something about making an effort to get tracks on a tape, and my crap handwriting that makes it really nostalgic, I don't know why they didn't evolve the technology its a format everyone likes

pretty much you started to get around your own technique by recording and/or looping stuff on tape, mostly a kid/youth activity
