I mean no disrespect to the guy, but it often sounds like
he’s making the same Autechre influenced track over and
over again. Yes I’m only on track one, but it sounds like
what I got the last time I listened to his stuff.

He's more Autechre than even Autechre are.

Once you see him working with modular and how he makes those
patches it gets a lot harder to say he's just doing their
thing. There's just not a lot of chords or melody since it
is a lot of patches so it's a bit colder than ae.

I wonder if it’s still all fed through logic piano roll!
;)

Richard Devine has a, shall we say, characteristic style,
and yes it's not too dissimilar from Autechre. I like it.
He's not a modular bigot, he uses lots of softwares too,
like one of these tracks has a very recognizable plugin
preset.

Speaking of feeding it through logic, I wonder why the AE
boys aren't playing with a big modular rig and controlling
it algorithmically from Max. You'd think they'd be all over
that shit.

the first track made me lol, i don't know if i'm just being
mean-spirited or what but it sounded like a big ol' wankfest
to me

It's a tricky listen, there are dozens of independent
timelines speeding up and slowing down in retriggered
interlocks. Recommend you listen repeatedly and chant the
Sabbath Aklo until Bugg Shoggog manifests.

Late at night I often summon a tremendous fart that quietly
assumes the form of Don Knotts.

Not Recommended.

kinda sounds like watching a pen spinning compilation video
on youtube.

i'm a simple man. the reason i enjoy autechre is because it
has the pen spinning cool shit going on, but autechre smart.
autechre know that head bopping rhythms are good and without
that listener get bored. autechre are also smart and know
that melody and having track progression from a to b and
having some sort of progression or resolution going on is
interesting and pleasing.

maybe that's a bit rough..

but seriously though. how good are autechre.

always get annoyed personally when i see fuck head internet
critics shitting on something i enjoy and it sounds like
they're simply not enjoying it for all the wrong reasons.
like, this music doesn't allign with their tastes and that's
totally fine but instead the fuck head internet critic feels
entitled to post online or make a youtube video about why
the thing that is objectively good is actually bad and
overrated. and i'll be screaming at my computer monitor like
'bro dw about it, you just dont get it!!'.

so again, probably dumb of me to do that exact same thing
here and shit on richard devine. i'm sure his music is
friccin amazing and speaks to a particular type of person
out there and they're loving it to death right.

but it still sounds like pen spinning to me.

It's pretty gross how this guy is constantly ripping off
African polyrhythms without giving an ounce of credit to the
cultures he's fucking over. All while his White Male fanbros
are like Whoa cool sounds dude!

Fuck off.
