I dug out my old Sony D-NE711 and holy shit it still works perfectly, 15 years old, just popped some AA batteries and a CD in there and now I'm listening to Aleksi Perala. Think I'll take it for a walk. I may even have a... CD wallet...? around somewhere, so I can change up the chunes on the go. |

I barely touch physical media any more. It's interesting, I'm burning a disk for the disk walkman and it makes you think differently about the music. More consideration involved than playing thousands of tracks on shuffle. Also I'm digging out CDs I haven't played for years. Put on Photek for my kid - he loved it. Maybe I'll straight up become a physical media guy. Only read books, listen to disks, buy a typewriter. Send letters in envelopes. Wear a... hold on this is getting into fedora territory |

I found my old minidisc player/recorder in my parents loft the other day with 4 minidiscs. one had a couple of live improvs I must have done at some point, one had Rahzels MTM 2000 album on it and two were blank. Bought it home with me to record stuff on. I'm very pleased. |

Minidisk! I've been out-retro-cooled! When I was buying this CD player the salesman was trying to get me to buy a minidisk. He had a cool model that had some kind of optical data transfer. Damn. |

i love my old minidisk recorder, plug in some binaural mics and you can get great field recordings. dunno if you can even buy blanks for it though, i was just overwriting the same one ad infinitum |

Early portable Sony CD players were called a Discman to avoid confusion. Once the tape became truly obsolete it was referred to as a Walkman. |

i should clarify and say that around here around that time everybody called the cassette one walkman, and the cd player cd player when it came out, the walkman terminology was not adopted by the people. |

My minidisc player also has the Walkman branding on it. Eat that, mohamed. I also had a Sony tape walkman, with which I would listen to “Ill communication” on repeat on the way to school. “Every morning I took the train to the high street station Doing homework on the train, what a fucked up sitation” I guess that made me feel badass, though I was a scrawny little kid with pimples. |

Exactly, it feels like walking around with an Edison cylinder. I lost my beloved little ipod shuffle and they don't make them any more. Can anyone suggest a music player that isn't a phone or an ipod touch? ideally something smaller than a cd walkman lol |
