Observation 1:
Think about sexual reproduction. An individual sperm and an individual egg cell die if they remain individuals. However, they continue to keep on existing in a different form if they merge and form a zygote. So there’s two options: (a) The sperm can remain an individual and die after some amount of time; (b) The sperm can give up its existence as an individual and merge with the egg-cell and die as an individual but keep on existing as part of a 'higher' form of life.
Observation 2:
In nature usually similar patterns are repeated on different levels.
(Example 1) The moon spins around the earth. The earth spins around the sun. The sun spins around the center of the galaxy.
(Example 2) Individual members of a species (say termites) give birth to new individual termites. Whole species - through the process of evolution - give birth to new species (bees, wasps, ants might reasonably have evolved from termites).
General inference drawn from Observation 1 & 2:
If patterns are indeed repeated in nature it would not be unlikely that the pattern of sperm-and-egg-cell-merging-to-form-a-higher-existence is repeated on a higher level.

Specific version of the general inference
What happens on the sperm/egg-cell level could be repeated on the level of individual human beings. You and your partner/girlfriend/wife/boyfriend/husband have to distinct egos/'consciousnesses'. For instance you experience your own pain directly and perceive your own thoughts directly, so to speak. But you don’t have access in that sense to your significant other’s thoughts/perceptions, precisely because they are a different person. … So maybe, this is the inference, now you have two choices. (a) You can live in such a way that you focus on your individuality and then die. (b) You can get involved with your partner to the extent that your two consciousnesses merge and form a higher-level just like egg and sperm merge. … But just like the being-as-a-zygote is not yet comprehensible form the viewpoint of the lifeform-of-a-sperm it’s totally unclear what the form-of-life for such mergeded consciousnesses would be.
It’s a bizarre and speculative thought, but is it unreasonable?

there is one other way obviously everyone knows but just cause you didn’t mention it i felt the thread won’t be complete without it. if you and your male friend cum at the same time and clash your man juice in the air above 567 horsepower, the phenomenon known as “the ultra spunk” will occur

"Ejaculation of semen is entirely involuntary in the human male, and in all other forms of terrestrial life. It would be unreasonable to assume otherwise for a kryptonian. But with kryptonian muscles behind it, Kal-El's semen would emerge with the muzzle velocity of a machine gun bullet. (*One can imagine that the Kent home in Smallville was riddled with holes during Superboy's puberty. And why did Lana Lang never notice that?*)"

Shaping a civilization via one's intellectual achievements is not really a form of gaining a 'higher' existence. You don't keep on existing as a conscious being if you shape a culture. You just leave traces.
If, on the other hand, your very personal consciousness would in fact merge with another personal human consciousness to form a 'higher' consciousness in which your normal consciousnes is subsumed .. that would be quite imrpessive and a genuine form of existence.
Well, whatever. Regarding the pep-talk. It's more the other way round. The pecular joys of married life make it more believable that there's a genuine metaphysicial signifcance behind the weird phenomenon of marriage.
I wouldn't defend the idea above in public, though. I'm roughly 40% serious.

Welt, would you agree there’s a possibility that we all communicate on some quantum level with each other, indirectly, merging in a sense, unintentionally?
As for merging with your partner, would that mean creating a new being? Would that being automatically be “better” than two normal beings, evolutionarily speaking? If I was to merge with my partner would I lose my identity? Are you purely speaking in a metaphysical sense? Can two humans who commit sin achieve this next level shit?
Anyway, you paint a much nicer picture than Plato did in Symposium. Are you suggesting in a way that maybe the next step for us as a species is getting back to what he called ‘soulmates’?

You don't keep on existing as a conscious being if you shape a culture.
But the as-above-so-below angle of your speculation strongly implies some sort of panpsychism.
An individual neuron doesn't keep on existing but the brain does... for a while... so does the individual, for a while... and the civilization the individual has influenced does... for a while...
Now the "subjective experience" of the neuron doesn't "know" about the consciousness of the overall brain, in the same way that perhaps the individual doesn't know about the subjective consciousness of the civilization - or even of the marriage - perhaps each link in the great chain of being only has psyche (or pan-proto-psychism) commensurate with its specific level of abstraction and complexity.
Or on the other hand perhaps we're deeply into fallacies of division and composition of the sort Ryle described, by trying to project personal qualities such as individual consciousness into greater and lesser scopes where it just doesn't apply.

Apparently scientists reckon nerve cells can regenerate, they just don’t particularly do it!
Danza, we can’t say for sure that we know wether a neuron is aware it’s a part of something much larger or not, but it does communicate... Also I would argue that although we don’t know the full extent of civilisation’s subjective consciousness (it’s a cool concept btw, the civilisation entity), we shape it and it reflects in us as much as we reflect in it. Is the clog aware of the mechanism? No. Is the neuron aware of the brain? I guess not. Is the human aware of the civilisation it has formed? Yes. As for it’s subjective consciousness, I would say it’s very much apparent.
