A song I wrote about depression, social anxiety, and the fear of being alone.

Recently I've been trying to avoid being on the computer at
all due to the onset of carpal tunnel affecting my right
hand, wrist, and forearm. Tonight however, I was for some
reason motivated to spend all of my time after work writing
and recording the bass line for a song that I've been close
to finishing for a while now. After polishing the mix to my
best ability, I think I'm pleased with what I ended up with,
but I'm definitely feeling the pain from over-doing it.

As the title says, this song is about depression, as
well as the feelings of social anxiety and loneliness that
can be overwhelming at times. I know it's certainly not
going to be the cup of tea that most people here prefer to
drink, but I hope some of you may be able to relate to it
and perhaps get something out of it.

Hey LLC! The song Dreams about Love is really good! I'm not
trying to blow smoke up your ass, I really like it. It's a
misty Friday before work here and supposed to be in the 90s
all weekend. Anyways....lol. it's really good. Do you have
other songs?
Depression and anxiety are no fun, keep writing beautiful
songs or writing or getting outaide. Again, recycle really
likes the cup of tea you have served and wants to drink more
:)

it's really pretty nice, this. gentle, wistful stuff. i'm
not one who thinks clean production is always the way to go
but it works here. you can tell it's not just a 5 min job

Thanks for the input guys! I posted this right before going
to sleep, and I'm just now on my first break at work, so I
apologize for the delay. I know a lot of the music that I
write may not appeal to the idm crowd, though a lot of the
classics in afx, boc, squarepusher, ae, etc. have been a
very important part of my musical experience over the years.
I know that the sound I am coming to develop may not wholly
reflect this fact, but these days I find it easier to write
in a softer, more downtempo style. I think a large part of
this stems from the severe tinnitus that I developed some 5
years ago due to excessive loud music both at concerts (with
no earplugs of course) and with headphones at work. I do
enjoy hearing other people's opinions though, perhaps
especially when I know it's not what they would normally
listen to.

As for your question recycle, I do have another recent track
called Mistakes that I posted here a little while
back. It was written after I ended my relationship with my
first live-in girlfriend of 3 years. Thanks again for all
the comments, and if my music can possibly provide some
level of comfort to even a single person, it's worth it to
me to share it.

Lyrics aside it’s a pretty chill sounding depression.
Sunset, cocktail, beach...

Haha, thanks Russell. I appreciate the feedback, and you're
not the first person to say something along those lines to
me.

I also wanted to say that I really don't mind criticism of
any sort, and contrary to what others may think, I am glad
for your input mohamed. Obviously not everyone is going to
be keen on everything or even anything that I write and
produce. Of course I hope to reach some people on an
emotional level, but I certainly don't *expect* it. If
you're actually taking the time to listen and give your
honest opinion, that's fantastic! That's really more than I
can ask of anyone, so I don't think that someone not getting
the same emotional response from the music as I put into
creating it is in any way unusual or offensive. I would much
rather get an honest reaction than a false one, or none at
all. So thank you for your input too mohamed, and thanks to
belb and signeduptoLOL as well. Sorry for making you
depressed, but I'm glad you could feel something all the
same! 😅

Believe me, I'm absolutely terrified of carpal tunnel. I'm a
week into wearing this wrist splint, but I'm not sure how
effective it's actually going to be. I'm still in the
beginning stages, so I'm hoping I can recover without the
need for surgery, but it's hard to tell at this point. I've
spent so much time using the computer for anything from
games, to reddit, to doing my best impression of a producer.
Add in the hours I put into practicing guitar (I have some
much more complex material that I need to practice A LOT to
be able to record it) and I clearly didn't spend enough time
stretching and relaxing my wrists. The thought of not being
able to play guitar or write and produce music anymore is
INCREDIBLY depressing, and I've actually just come home from
work some days and just slept until it was time to get up
for work again the next day. It's going to be rough if this
continues to get worse, which I have a really bad feeling
that it will...

just kill the fucking impression as a producer, straight
away, then you will improve.

offline llc from United States on 2018-08-24 22:58 [#02559518]
Points: 250 Status: Regular

Yeah, I know health is definitely the #1 priority. It's just
hard to stay away from the computer or guitar in any
capacity, especially when I have so much stuff I want to
work on. Honestly it's just hard to find other things to do
to occupy my time when I want to be doing the things I love
and am so used to doing. And I know I'm not any sort of
gifted producer by any means, but I am trying to improve. I
have a shitload to learn, and it sucks taking time away from
that.

personal experiences. everyone finds a way.
