What are your favourite startup sounds? You know the little chimes and jingles that play when you turn certain things on?
My favourite is probably the PS1.

I'd have to say that one is my favorite, too. So much nostalgia evoked by it, and yet it's still interesting and (really) beautiful from a sound design perspective today.
Back then, I used to dream that the sound was created using the PS1 hardware, and one day someone would unlock the secrets of the console and turn it into a synthesizer the way people did NES and the like. But I think mermaidman is probably correct that it was made elsewhere and simply played back through the playstation's sound chip as a wav.

least favourite eno composition i think it's interesting how such small compositions still represent something
I mean, obviously!! but what are the rules? Like particular pitch intervals that 'mean' something? I suppose it's just like music but it because its so shorter its easier to analyse how it affects u
like last nite i noticed choice of ringtone Wallander's phone in UK Wallander remake (not sure if same in orig version? If different that would be interesting)

God yes I do. Easily my 2nd favorite!
Fun Fact: Apparently, Yuji Naka has said that originally, they wanted to make Sonic a breakdancer and planned to make an animated sound-test screen where he would dance to the game's music, but due to time/budget constraints they couldn't. What to do with the remaining cartridge space, then? Thee iconic digitized “SEEEGAAA!” chant, which came from their TV commercials, was born. :)

I've been racking my brain because I know there's a good one that is escaping me atm. The best I can up with is the whirr of the computer fan and Valve's Half Life intro - but that's not strictly a start up sound imo (nor is Seeggaaa btw, RD). I'm treating this as strictly system start-up.
Lazy start up
^^ not fav+ but one I'm familiar with in recent memory (RIP)

The switch doesn’t have a start up sound - just a click click click bwarp. On that menu though where you have to press a button 3 times - when you press other buttons, like the triggers or if you push in the left or right sticks it makes different sounds. Useless but fun.
