are you doing something in particular to keep Albert cool
these days?

Yeah it’s an issue. I try to avoid going out with him when
the sun is at its peak, and will make sure we go at his
pace. Problem is he’s really keen still and will head the
way, but after a while he stops and asks for a break or for
me to carry him. At home when it’s stupidely hot I’ll
put the shutters down and put the fan on. Obviously always
fresh water, but you know that. I don’t feel there’s a
trick per say that I can give you. Just walk in the shade
with her when you can, and be alert to her demeanour. They
naturally look for the shade when walking I find. When
Albert is really hot after being out in the sun he enjoys a
little cold water on his fur. Basically during the summer I
cut down on physical exercise, and will go outside and
around my building with him more often for a quick walk and
sniff around.

yes pretty clear, exactly the same for me

once i saw her staggering

Thing is, at least with Al, is that he’s obviously not
aware that he has to take it easy because of his heart. If I
let him go too fast in the sun he always ends up staggering
like you say. Had to go to the emergency vet not long ago.
Luckily he was ok.

yeah heat is terrible for animals, little birds were pecking
at the window to turn the small water fountain on in the
front garden the other day

im fucked if that happens to her, id have to go take the bus
and then to the vet, with the chance we dont even make it in
time. guess ill have to be very careful, luckily it was a
quick realization of the points you stated in your post, but
the staggering episode was my own negligence (it was early
afternoon, walking under the sun) and it could have costed
her life!

wouldnt know what to do if that happends at night. maybe
call a taxi. maybe i should just let her die, like it seems
to show through some stories of people that lost their dogs.

hyperflake’s invisible dog, keep up!

Great that she enjoys the water!

How come she doesn’t like her belly being touched? Has she
always been like that? Usually dogs like being touched
there. Is she in pain there or is it just her personality?

shes drinking like there is no tomorrow today (which means
average drinking for a normal dog, she rarely drinks in
normal weather conditions). ive been home from work for some
pimplosis that appeared on my left underarm during the
night, the kind of stuff it normally attacks my arsehole,
quite annoying, ive had to shave my armpits for the first
time in my life to be able to see it.

It feels like every time I chat with mo about our dogs you
turn up and sort of take over! I promise I won’t steal
your friend! XD

Joke aside, have you ever thought of getting a dog? Would
your girlfriend be up for that?

i wanted a male and a puppy.

she was in the corner of a cage of three puppies, her
bothers, one of them the same color of her, the other
completely black. the two were playing. so i go to the vet
and ask for the male of them, and she said to me the two
males have found a home already, only the female remains. it
was maya, lying on a corner and watching me. so i thought
ok, and took her.
