Revisiting Damn, it's better than I remembered. Maybe Damn is just as good artistically but I prefer Butterfly because it's more steeped in musical history and that makes it feel heftier? Or is it because the use of older styles like jazz and funk on Butterfly lends it legitimacy in my eyes that I am less able to perceive in the more modern sounding Damn because of internalized Racism. 🤔 |
